Much like game reviews I look for critics who can tell me enough about the movie to get a good feel for if I'm going to like the film or not.duxup
Basically the same, except I don't go out of my way to look for them like I do with games.

Roeper's never said anything about video games. Ebert never said they were crap, only that they weren't art. That was one of the few dumb things he's ever written, by the way. It's a shame that's the only reason a lot of people have even heard of him.Gigahart627

Except in very rare cases, I agree with him.

Considering how freakin expensive movies are nowadays, I do listen to them. But in any case, the golden rule is

Friends>Critics I don't give a damn about

TboneKing

I'm of the opposite opinion. Most of my friends are idiots, and wouldn't know a good movie if it bit them on the ass.

Of course, a lot of film critics don't know anything either. But there are a lot of film critics, so it's not that hard to find critics who don't suck.

Ditto to that. I have a tendency to either wait until movies go to the cheap theater, or just wait until they come out on DVD. There are a few that I will see in a theater (my choosing of course), and obviously, if on a date, you have to let the woman pick. I never listen to film critics though. They spend all their time analyzing a movie, and no time enjoying it.

When Star Wars came out, And I'm talking about the original release of Episode 4 in 1977, every film critic bashed it. They called it garbage, the worst sci-fi movie of all time. All of the papers in Philly gave it 1 star or less. I then went to the drive through theatre with my parents and saw that amsterpiece. That was the last time I ever took a critics opinion to heart.

If I'm interested in a movie I'll most likely see it no matter what. I still read the reviews though.

It seems the further media gets, the easier it is to judge anything. Game critics I generally agree with. Movies critics are varried though, like there's always a half who likes it and a half who doesn't. With books, the critics are ALLLL over the place. Award winning books are very often complete snores and vice versa.

Nope, I would rather have my own opinions on a film rather than someone elses.

I don't have a lot of money to spend on watching movies so I can't go see everything that might interest me. If the movie's getting tons of bad reviews, that's not to say I wouldn't enjoy it, but I'd rather not risk it.

Yeah sure, if the movie has a good buzz then it might get me interested in watching it even more. But I usually just watch the films I was interested with from the beginning and find out the hard way.

Not singularly.

I take the general opinion, from many critics. If they all have similar opinions then I listen to them. Oh yes it also depends who.
