i respect it, and sometimes i listen to it. but honestly, i usually hate it.
i personally find no real emotion in it, just randomness.

yeah when jazz is on the radio i usuallly leave it on because i cant stand pop.
ive heard a lot of stuff similar to this. and, yeah i dont like it and i notce a lot of wankery. adding notes that dont have to be there etc.
hate the way jazz rhythm sounds as well (not percussion though)
Yes I love Jazz I also play Jazz, I'm working on a jazz solo right now, a canonball Aderly piece, I will record and upload it sometime. ferrari2001
Man I wish I could play sax. Is it hard to pick up in comparison to other instruments?
Yes I do actually. I've been a fairly casual listener for most of my life but spurred on by my jazz expert friends I've been trying to pick up a few more albums here and there and spend a bit more quality time with them. Most of my love is for Bebop era music but I dearly love old swing music and Brazilian jazz and I've dabbled in the modern jazz world of John Zorn and James Carter here and there. Lord_Daemon
Ah yes, John Zorn! That guy is something else.
I'm in jazz band at my school, and I hear our stuff when we play, so I guess you could say I listen to it... not on my own time though. I think the music is really boring and a lot of it sounds the same to me; the only reason I'm in the class is because I like playing guitar, even if it is jazz stuff.
The only time I really liked the music was last year when we had a really awesome saxophone player (he graduated last year though). His solos were simply amazing.
Anyone else here a fan of free jazz? I listen to it a ton, but it seems a lot of people, even many jazz fans can't stand it. CrimzonTide
About a year ago, I couldn't stand just the thought of it. After listening to some more jazz, right now I can tell you I LOVE free jazz. It's some of the most interesting jazz I've ever heard, it gives me a feeling I don't find in any other jazz subgenre. Something so special in the improvisation and experimentation of that genre that gives me the chills every time I listen to it. I love Anthony Braxton, Eric Dolphy, and Ornette Coleman, above all.

Yes, him and most of the free jazz found in his own label, Tzadik. I saw the Jamie Saft Trio some months ago, and I loved it. Good to see appreciation for John Zorn around here.

The strange rythms just didn't seem right, but it grows quickly. I love Ornette Coleman, but Tomasz Stańko will always be my favorite.

Haven't heard much of his music, frankly. I'll check him out though, since I've heard his name drop out quite a few times.

The newer stuff just isn't as good, I think. And if you're a fan of a trumpet and piano meld his quartets do that perfectly.
I like it when it's in Radiohead songs. :)

Possibly the best four minutes and 15 seconds of music. I'm entirely jealous of Thom Yorke and the gang for having written such a perfect piece of music.
Send me a link to anything else like this please.
