I just got braces today and was wondering if anybody here on OT have or have ever had them.

I had braces for two years. I would recommend not trying to break any piece cause it sucks to get it fixed. Beware the braided bands and thickening your wire ...... they suck hard. I felt like my braces were gonna rip my teeth out of my mouth when I first got them on. Nonstop-Madness
lol, I know that feeling. I couldn't eat anything solid for a week since my teeth hurt everytime I bit into anything. Had tons of smoothie shakes though. :)
I take it you're in pain TC? If not... you will be. :( For the first couple of years you'll hurt every time they're tightened. But after you've had them for a long time it stops hurting. Take good care of them and do what the orthodontist tells you. And wear your retainer(s) when they're off.

Best advice. My friend had braces and never wore her retainer (in fact she's only been back to the orthodontist once since she got them off...which was like 5 years ago) and her teeth are moving back which basically makes it a waste of time, money and pain that could have been avoided.

one of the worst mistakes in my life was eating a Big Mac 1 hour after I got my braces. My gums left they wanted to die and my head felt like it was being hit like a drum.[QUOTE="ExoticAnimal"][QUOTE="Nonstop-Madness"]I had braces for two years. Got to agree with this as well! I had braces for years, tightening really hurts and oh lord if they don't trim the very back bit of the bar it hurts like no tomorrow! But, after all that, I didn't wear my retainer and now my bottom teeth may as well never had have a brace on. I'm considering going through it all over again! So yes, wear that retainer!

I remember once this one guy got braces and first thing he did was buy a Snickers (which has caramel) and somehow broke them. The orthodontist gave him hell for that
I had 'em for two years. In retrospect, it was not that bad, but boy did having them tightened suck. The slightest tap on your tooth would give me a headache and it hurt for a day or two before you got used to it. I ate a lot of ramen during that period. I still went 2 years without eating ribs or hard candy, though.:(
If you are just getting them, after the main phase wear your retainer! I noticed other people have said this too. You really don't want that time to go to waste, so make sure you wear it regularly, especially when you first get it. If you stop wearing it for a day or two, you'll notice that suddenly it is harder to put on and hurts again, so don't skip a beat. I continued to wear mine for quite some time, and now my teeth look quite straight...
And then I chipped one of my front teeth years later in a bike accident. Derp.
How is this 23 yes, 2 no?
I've never had them and my teeth are fairly staright. Dentist says I won't need wisdowm teeth pulled either.
Whenever I would replace my tooth brush the bristles would always get ripped out and stuck in my braces, that was annoying.
And I remember early on when I first got them after an adjustment when I could start eating normally again I was munching on some corn chips, one I managed to bite down on while it was vertical in my mouth, it pushed the archwire right down to my gum line (it was where I had gaps from tooth extractions). That happened on a saturday night so I couldn't get it fixed straight away. Basically that caused the most excruciating pain during my time with braces, felt like my jaw was broken. And the ortho just push on it and it snapped right back up into place. That was embarrassing.
Just thought I'd add to some nice braces stories for TC ;)
Hell no. I already had glasses. I didn't want to look like a complete nerd. Also I never needed them...MgamerBDNothing wrong with looking like a nerd.
Had them for 2 years. Hated them so much but it was well worth it.
It prevented me from getting into fights throughout high school. Now that I'm older and more mature, fights are pretty pointless to me.
same, i feel like a war vet with the lines ripped in my cheeks lolI had them for years, F*****g hated them, they ripped my mouth to shreds, I still have the scars inside my mouth and they hurt so much when they got tightened that I couldn't eat properly for days afterwards.
