So far in this pole, a majority 37% of all people owning a bible are atheists...
I wonder what percentage of people owning The God Delusion are Christian?

I'm a Christian but I want to read that book. I already have books such as What's So Great About Christianity by Dinesh D'Souza which basically address many of his arguments.
My family owns one. I'm not Christian but I'd love to read the Bible sometime. It's a great piece of literature, irrespective of whether or not you are Christian. I'm also interested in the Koran.
As somebody else said, I wonder how many Christians have read atheist or agnostic literature. I'd certainly respect them a lot more if they did. I'm not a theological expert but I've tried to read both sides of the argument. Assuming your beliefs are infallible and ignoring refutations only makes you a blind follower. That goes for both sides.

How can you say that, without reading The God Delusion first?
Why not buy it? Personally, I'd recommend "Tricks of the Mind, by Derren Brown" - its much more fun.

I just haven't gotten the chance to read it yet. Throughout D'Souza's book he basically says things like "Dawkins said in The God Delusion..." so that's how I have some idea of things he may say. I've got 5 books sitting next to me that I'm trying to read through, I'll get to the books you mention soon enough however.
I own several of them.
It only takes the combination of a religious nutcase and an antitheist nutcase to turn this into a religious debate
Richard Dawkins, as you should be aware of, has absolutely no credentials in this field. He's a biologist

and nor does Sam Harris.

You'd trust this third-hand information? I'd guess you will not read either of the books suggested, as they will conflict too much with your faith.
Shame.

I suppose being chair for the Public Understanding of Science at Oxford University, having an award named after you by the Atheist Allience International, being Honory Associate for the Secular Society and Vice pesident of the British Humanist Association count for nothing these days...
Professor Dawkins should be ahamed to stick his ill-informed nose into religion...

So to argue against theology, you must be a theologen, right? The opposite to theism is atheism.
The field in which Professor Dawkins deals in his book "The God Delusion" is atheism. By your own standards, you should not be qualified to talk about him, as you have no credentials in the field in which he deals.
Probably.. If anything I like to look over it for ancedote's or interesting lines of text.
Do I read it for over all meaning? No I think philosophical texts from Socrates, Plato, to the Art of War by Tzu Sun to be much more forfilling and indepth.

I do plan to read them. My faith is strong enough to read such material. Not only do I not mind reading that but I actually enjoy studying Evolution, Islam, Mormonism, etc. I like to know what people think and why they think it. I want to know what the arguments are from every standpoint.
yes, and im atheist. ive needed it for humanities and bible theology. i dont think ill need it after this semester so i plan on selling for video games and beer money :D
edit: i also have a children's bible (got it after 1st communion) that i use to use as a tv stand for my older tv.
