I own a really crappy old desktop, but my primary computer is a 15.4" laptop. I also own two UMPCs. I plan on building a good desktop in the next year when I can scrape together the funds.

Don't buy Alienware, they are really horrible. I used to have an Alienware, it crapped out in 3 months and for whatever reason, the extended warantee I bought wouldn't cover it.
Both. I have a Macbook, iMac Desktop, a Gaming Desktop and then an old 800mhz Laptop which still actually works surprisingly good for how old it is and whatnot...
Desktop. I may have to get a laptop for college, but I still prefer desktops, as I like my massive keyboard and mouse, my massive speakers, my massive HAL-9000 looking computer, and a monitor so beautiful it could be mistaken for a portal into a different dimension. Laptop keyboards/mouse and monitors drive me nuts. I also like to be able to open my machine and fix things whenever I feel like it.

lol I'm not getting an alienware, those things are really expensive, I'm getting a Dell. :D
