Once I finish High School, I'm going to enlist in the US army in a computer-related area to pay for college.
I'd rather go to cheap or no college than pay for it with my life.
Army is for few, not for me. I mean: you can get killed. For real.
Why would I want to do that?COD:Modern Warfare 2 is coming out.

haha.nice...but true
still enlisting, i think my future is a little more important than video games, even if i'm going into game design, animation, and programming
GO ARMY

ok, that doesn't guarentee that you will go there but ther is a godd chance you will.
[QUOTE="metalmaggot46"]I had a friend that was killed in Iraq that was non-combat stationed...He was in a convoy that was hit. Sorry for your loss, but 2 of my buddies in my old unit died a while back in a car accident. Does that mean we should be afraid of driving?you can request where you go.

Twice in my life I have considered joining one branch or another of the military. Twice I have decided not to. I would like to point out a few things that you should be aware of, however.
First, the army and the marines are the two front line fighters. Make sure that whatever technology field you get into is something you can pass the tests for and something that isn't going to be phased out soon. My best friend was in Air Defense, which is non-functional in the Iraqi War so they're re-classing everyone. That leaves you with three jobs. Cook, grunt, and driver.
Second, the air force and the navy have better college options. Especially the air force. Have you considered the other branches?
Third, make sure that what you're doing is what you really want. It's not easy and they break a lot of their promises and rules but you gotta follow every single one of them. I don't know what type of contract you signed up for but you're looking at 4 years minimum. My best friend, the one who's job is being phased out, re-upped so that he could re-class to a job he wanted. He was 2 years into his 4 year and re-upped for 6 years. However, when he did that it dropped his remaining 2 years that he currently had so he's only going to be in for 4 years longer than he should have been originally.
I was going to add a joke in here, too, but I forgot what it was. Maybe if I remember I'll put it in.
[QUOTE="spazzx625"][QUOTE="DarkPrinceXC"] Sorry for your loss, but 2 of my buddies in my old unit died a while back in a car accident. Does that mean we should be afraid of driving? bt_the_great_78Of course not, but I wouldn't go so far to say "if I am a passenger in a car I am more safe". There's a statistically higher chance of death driving in America each year than the chance of death for someone on active (and active reserve) service for any one year during our entire time in Iraq since 2003 to the present.
But that profession does carry a greater risk than most others, right? So it's still reasonable for people not to want to take that risk.
Nah. Even in a non-combat job, I'd still be helping wars I don't agree with.karristonMy feelings exactly.
I don't have a choice. When the time comes I need to go to the army or to prison. Or I could go wipe elders bottoms and such. The service is obligatory :)
not in these times. too many soldiers are dying for the wrong reasons and itz a shame. it saddens me to see Bush sitting on his ranch after sending so many to the grave because of personal beefs between Saddam and the Bush's. if it is a just war...then i probably consider it., but it is just too many secret agendas and i'm not one to give my life for someone elses personal gains

I wasn't offended. If you want to join the armed forces, I wish you well. My father was in the air force...My grandfather was as well, and served in WW2 and Korea. I have nothing but respect for military folk.i had no intention of offending anyone

Were you Drafted?Because the US got rid of the draft
I still think about it for after Uni, but I still think theres better ways to serve humanity and your country and preserve peace than enlisting, for example going down the politics/science route. Which I plan to do, but not politics immediatly, after I've achieved as many as my ambitions in Science as I possibly can then maybe move onto the UN. I still admire those who do enlist, someone has to do it.
I wanted to, ever since I was like 10, I really wanted to be in some kind of armed forces.
But when I was 15, I was struck with leprosy, and by 'leprosy' I mean another condition which isn't nearly as worse but still invalidates any hope of entry into it, so I was able to kiss any of that dream good bye.
I'm a tad too old to enlist at this point and I have a bum knee so unless they want some awesome paperwork processed I don't think I'd be of much use to the armed services.

Nah, the service is obligatory in my country for all above 18."Military service is obligatory in Finland, and all men are called into service at the age of 18. They can choose whether to serve in the military (the minimum service is 6 months), or do a year of civil service. Human rights groups have criticized Finland for the length of the civil service and for imprisoning men who refuse to complete their service in either way"
