I got a Mac about five months ago and I swear you couldn't pay me to switch back to PC! What's everybody else's opinion?jam19911000
Yay! another converted! I'm a mac
After using both, i like both but prefer PC because im more familiar with the environment but if you use/do a lot of software applications(photoshop, final cut), it is much better than a PC.
PC, Macs are overrated, expensive pieces of out of date hardware. I still feel bad for a friend of mine who paid $3000 for a Mac that was weaker than my PC which cost half as much. IantheoneMacs are weaker than PCs only because their software doesn't require as much power. They're way more efficient, so why put the extra money into features that would be overkill?
I'd take Windows over OSX any day.
Mostly because of the games I like playing. The hardware is also wickedly over priced (double to even triple the cost of what you can get in a Windows machine).
[QUOTE="TicTac8745"]I like them both - Windows for all my serious work such as working a project or gaming, but I have a MacBook Pro for those basic day-to-day stuff like email and web browsing. If I tried to run as many programs on a PC, it'd blow up!This is incorrect.

[QUOTE="Pirate700"]This is incorrect. Then explain why a Mac can start up and run programs WAY faster than a PC. Macs don't turn off. They go into a low-power state, and they save the image of the memory so everything can be put brought back faster. Again, we're back at the "hiding" part. None of that has anything to do with how well each OS handles multitasking. Admittedly, Windows could use this feature. The closest thing it has it "lock" and "hibernate". "Lock" doesn't really put the computer into a low power mode. "Hibernate" never works for me, and it's also a complete shutdown rather than low-power so I still have to go through the BIOS. Also I'm willing to be you have a few dozen applications starting up in Windows while your Mac is pretty clean.[QUOTE="jam19911000"] My Mac is VERY handy for all the multi-tasking that I have to do in school (hence, everyday tasks). [QUOTE="jam19911000"]I'm talking about projects on Photoshop and that sort of thing.General_XPhotoshop runs just as well if not better on PC's. (Graphic Desing student here) Not really from what I've seen in my personal experience. I know it's not exactly Photoshop, but I know that I have had a LOT fewer problems with pasting large images into a PowerPoint on my Mac whereas the PC had to stop and "think" for a few seconds instead of just pasting it in there. I saved so much time building that presentation!
Leaving the MAC kids alone, they dont know better. gohan2710This Mac "kid" definitely knows better! I was a PC user for years before I switched!

If you can't answer these than your comparison is invalid.

I saved so much time building that presentation! Photoshop was designed for Macs. Thus, it's more optimized for Macs. That is an advantage Macs have which is why a lot of graphic designers use them (initially). However, that's not a benefit to the Mac itself. Photoshop could easily work well on a PC if it was optimized for the PC. Also, there's the very real, (and highly likely) option that your PC sucks. If you're PC has half the memory and half the processing power, then it's going to be slower. Likewise, if you're Mac is half the power as a PC, it's going to be slower.

When I switched to my MacBook Pro with only 4 GB of RAM, the job went a lot smoother!
PC all the way. I even finally got a droid phone today after 2 iPhones. I personally will never own another Apple product again.

I agree, not that they're bad products but there are better and cheaper alternatives..... and I like games.

Seriously dude, you have no idea what you are talking about
You can have a really slow Mac, or a really slow PC. You can also have a really fast Mac and a really fast PC. This is not entirely caused by the differences in software.
More or less, what matters is the hardware of the system (the biggest ones for doing basic tasks are RAM, hard drive speed, and CPU). The speed of a system is also affected by things like viruses, spyware, and background tasks. The hard drive could also be very fragmented, causing slower read and write speeds to it.
A PC is more susceptible to viruses as there are not many Mac viruses that are out there, but they are still there.
The most likely reason that your PC running windows 7 is running crappily is either because it has bad hardware, or you simply did not take good care of it. Being honest, you need to take a little bit of extra effort to keep a Windows sytem clean of problems, but it is worth it imo. This is especially true for people like me, who want a lot out of their hard ware for as low of a price as possible. Macs are also not compatible with most of the personal computer based video games out there, which is a major downside for me.
Still, Macs are definitely a viable choice for personal computing. You pay a premium for the brand though (there are no real benefits), and I don't really like that.

Also, that doesnt quite make sense that you would pay MORE for weaker hardware when you dont need it.
Don't care that much w/e I'm using lol. I can use pretty much every OS without whining too much... except OpenBSD. I will whine a lot if you make me use that on a daily base.
I mean I probably would prefer OSX on a laptop, due to awesome battery life... I use Ubuntu/Windows on my laptop, and while I am mostly in Ubuntu, the battery life is arse.

The Sleep Mode in Vista (my laptop) and Win 7 (my gaming PC) works perfectly fine here. When in hibernate mode, everything looks powered off: lights, fans, drives, all the LED lights. The PC looks like it's turned off. Yet if I move the mouse, the PC resumes right where it was within a couple of seconds.
I rarely turn off my computers nowadays, preferring to keep them in Sleep Mode.

Are you kidding me?. I was using my friends mac the other day, and he had multiple things open. It was very slow.
I have a nice notebook with an i5 processor. I can have many things open, and it'll still run fine.
