Dur-hur-hur? I see you still ignore phantom pain, ignore the very definition of "receptor" (hint: your link backs my stance, not yours) and you ignore exactly what the central nervous system is.

I'm going to do a little evaluation: you went blindly searching wikipedia for the first thing that seemed to support your stance and, once you found something that didn't use the word "brain" to describe it, you, not know what the central nervous system is, quoted that link without even reading the article, thinking I wouldn't read it or know what I'm talking about.

Lol...you don't even sound old enough to be in university. No, I didn't go blindly searching, genius. My dad is a psychologist, dur dur dur.

I don't care who your dad is or what he does unless I'm talking to him. My grandfather's an ex-marine; doesn't mean I know how to assemble a gun.

He's been reading over my shoulder, dear. You should really give up the losing fight. I'm not going to waste my time on it anymore, though. My dad wishes you luck *sarcasm*.

"Once stimulated, a nociceptor transmits a signal along the spinal cord, to the brain. Nociception triggers a variety of autonomic responses and may also result in the experience of pain in sentient beings" Looks pretty self explanatory to me.

Let's try this again: explain to me how, if you were right and I was wrong, we can feel and describe pain in parts of the body ranging anywhere from the eyes to limbs, regardless of whether or not we are in possession of those parts of the body, if pain is not located in your brain but your skin.

Explain. It. It would dismantle everything I've said and send me on my merry way.

The 'phantom pain' you speak of is considered a phenomenon, but the pain we're speaking of is pretty much factual and normal. Oh, and phantom pain is experienced by people who have lost their limbs, through amputation or congenital limb deficiency, not with people who weren't born with them. That makes a huge difference. How am I going to explain to you something that isn't even medically understood? You're just claiming this theory and trying to disprove common fact.

Occasionally - I took them today for a cracking head ache I had earlier but if it's a minor head ache then I just ignore it :)

Pain receptors are activated from outside stimuli such as a hot pan. They send signals to the brain. Your brain interprets that as "Ow that burns"

Phantom limb syndrom can be cause by accidental firing of the damaged nerves at the site of the injury.

This thread is awesome, the best part was when someone called somebody Cletus in a debate about how the nervous system works. I only take paracetamol when I have a headache.

isn't talking about drugs against the rules here? A pain reliever is a drug.

Pain Relievers no unless prescribed for a certain reason. Aspirin/Sinus medicine only when it's really bad. Usually can tolerate not taking it 95 % of the time.

Never. If I have pain, I grin and bear it. Unless it is so excruciating that I cannot stay conscious, I do no medicate when I don't need to. I usually take an advil or two when I feel a fever coming on (as a preventative) or when I have a fever and don't want it to get more serious.

Medicating for every little problem lowers our body's capability of fending for itself.

foxhound_fox

There comes a point when chronic pain, while bearable, becomes debilitating and where pain medication is very justifiable. If you're talking about pain that doesn't last for a long time, I agree, but when it's constant it really drains and tires you out.

3 500 mg Vicodin everday, sometimes up to 5 depending.

Dogswithguns

What? aint it kinda too much there?

2-3 pills a day is no reason to worry. 5 pills a day is bordering on being harmful to the liver due to the paracetamol (aka Tylenol, etc) included with the hydrocodone (narcotic). Mixed together they become Vicodin. My daily intake is really not that heavy of a dose at all. I used to be on 180 mg of Oxycontin daily, now you wanna talk about a kick in the pants.....that drug is flat out brutal in its effectiveness, addictive beyond belief and hard as hell to get off of.

Great to see you on here C. I'd say you have a very good reason. How are you feeling, shoot me a PM when you have time and let's catch up.

Definitely. I'm headed to a late 4th celebration tonight, but I'll hit you up tonight when I get back.
