Their animated movies got significantly worse for a while, now they're getting great again. Tangled is possibly the best Disney movie out there.
If you can count Pixar, they still are making fantastic movies. The Disney animation studios has been going downhill since the late 90s. The animators are still the best in the business, but the writing is lacking. As for their television, lets not even go there........

yea and i heard that The Princess and the Frog (i think that wat its called) was possibly the best animated film since The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast. well on the female point of view lol. i've never seen it before.

omg pixar will always be great no matter what! wasnt Toy Story the very first film made by Pixar?
The old Disney movies are all classics, there hasn't been a comparable one made in years.harashawn
plus the old disney movies actually have feeling in them. i'm a 26 year old guy and i still can't watch The Fox and the Hound without getting a lil emotional and watery eyed :')
They were getting worse for quite a while, but they actually got a bit better in recent years. Phineas and Ferb is a decent show which is the best I can say about their tv programming in a while, and in terms of movies, Bolt was kind of good and Tangled was actually really good. So still mostly pretty bad, but there's at least SOME good stuff in there now.

I have to agree with this, I was surprised how The Princess and the Frog made its way directly to my top 3 Disney films on the very first watch, drawing with but not displacing Beauty and the Beast which is my favourite Disney film of all (and is part of the aforementioned Disney Renaissance of course). It showed that Disney still has some of the old magic imo but sadly I remember someone mentioning they have decided to move away from the whole Princess thing which for me as a sad girl is a shame. Their current run can be hit and miss anyway - Tangled was a bit weak to me but that's just me - they're not 100% guaranteed to spin a masterpiece like they were in the 90s etc. That being said I think they have a lot of potential in re-releasing their old stuff; watching Beauty and the Beast on BluRay was honestly one of the most bombastic movie experiences I've ever encountered. However living off of pre-gnawed bones isn't so admirable a trait in such a company.Disney was best during what is referred to as the "Disney Renaissance" or the period beginning with "The Little Mermaid" and ending with "Tarzan" peaking of course at "The Lion King".trick_man01I agree with this 100%.
The quality of Disney movies ebb and flow. Some decades they are great, other decades they are terrible.Their animated movies got significantly worse for a while, now they're getting great again. Tangled is possibly the best Disney movie out there.

I think most people would agree that this is the general Disney progression in terms of quality.
Worse, definately. Unless you count pixar (they own them now) otherwise it's not good.
For one thing what the hell is up with Disney channel? I have younger nephews and nieces that come over to my house and they turn on Disney Channel and there isn't a single cartoon on there. It's all this "tween wave" crap that they have on there like Hannah Montanna ect.. These shows look more like advertisements and trends than actual anything else. I don't know what happens but I'll be glad when this stuff finally blows over and some different trend starts, I just hope it isn't as bad.
As for Disney animation, I can't really remember the last time they made a move. I know they have done them but they just didn't look good. Although it's not animated but Pirates of the Carribeean is good so there is still some Disney magic in there somehwere.

Phineas and Ferb is basically the only Disney cartoon they still make for television...and it's actually a good cartoon.
There is one other cartoon however...but it's atrociously bad. Not even worth naming.

You mean the Kyle Massey fish one? Then I agree.Pixar still makes great movies (Excluding Up), and Princess and the Frog was actually pretty good. But thats still not enough to redeem them for being horrible.
Pixar movies are mainly the only reason I watch DC now. And P&F.

I remember when I was a kid they had all kinds of cartoons on there like duck tails ect...
But know I'm just like "wtf?" you know.
Oh but princess and the frog was pretty good but I don't know if that was pixar or not, still some disney magic is in there. i just think they need to get rid of all this hanna montanna stuff and go back to being good. Hell even nickelodean has gone that way aswell. I don't watch these channels regularly or anything so I don't know, but when ever my younger family members come to visit they turn that stuff on and I can't understand what happened.

That's the one.
For those of you who don't know what we're talking about, watch the opening:

Yes, the show is as stupid as the opening.
Pixar had a bit of a slipup with Cars 2... I can say with authority that Cars 2 is the first Pixar movie I watched that felt like it had no soul.
Let's hope they redeem themselves with their next film Brave:

Regardless, I'm probably going to be at the NYC premiere of Brave...I love Pixar to death.

Don't even get me started on Nickelodeon. They now consist of only tween wave crap, and have several different channels running spongebob and showing reruns of it all day. They have the occasional avatar and dragon ball z but they've gone to **** too. And yes, I am a grown man in my 20's that still watches cartoons, if there were any. All I watch on tv now is jersey shore, wilfred, adventure time, regular show, and anything on boomerang.I think they are fine. It's just that people are getting older so they dont seem as wondrous to them anymore. But young kids still love them.
Their broadcast programming has practically hit rock bottom compared to the efforts of Disneytoon Studios in the late 80s early 90s.
However, their feature films still have some weight. We all know the Renaissance starting in 1989 was their highest point since their start, but even the latest films haven't been ALL bad. As an avid Disney follower (from birth), I think they've slipped up several times like any other company. However, they are making an effort to turn things around, thanks in part (or entirely) to new management.
And regardless of the company's failures or successes with films/TV, their theme parks remain on top always. Never been to a more enjoyable theme park in my life.
TV is getting worser and worser on it's Disney Cartoons. I miss the old cartoons like Ducktales and Recess
I like how they're getting into more live action movies. The only thing that I really don't like is how Disney now completely owns Pixar, and has pretty much made it clear that Pixar won't be making anymore movies like Up or Wall-E. Though, Pixar's new movie, Brave looks pretty good. I'd say they're doing pretty good right now since the movies they're releasing are mostly pretty good, and I'd rather have good movies rather than a lot of mediocre ones.
I would like to see them care more about owning ABC and actually put a good show on ABC, especially after the ending of Lost (I don't watch it, but I heard from a lot of dedicated Lost fans that the ending was horrible). They definitely are doing good with ESPN, it's just ABC needs some help.
Well lets compare the diversity and originality of the Disney Channel original movies from the mid 90s to early 2000s
Suzie-Q
Brink
Johnny Tsunami
Gunther's Paint Ball Bergade
Under Wraps
Halloweentown I + II
Escape to Witch Mountain
You Lucky Dog
The Thirteenth Year
Horse Sense
Jump Ship
Alley Cats Strike
Moms got a Date with a Vampire
Quints
Stepsister from Planet Weird
Miracle in Lane 2
The Color of Friendship
Phantom of the Megaplex
The Luck of the Irish
Motocrossed
Get a Clue
Hounded
Twas' the Night
... Ok you get the idea.. These were all very different movies with their own unique concepts and morals and they all taught kids different life lessions and they were also funny and entertaining........but now lets look at what it looks like from 2006 to the present
Highschool Musical
Highschool Musical 2
Cheetagirls 2
Camp Rock
Camp Rock 2
Star Struck
Avalon high
and so on... Yes I know there was stuff like the Phineas and Ferb movie that I left out, but seriously almost EVERY SINGLE disney channel original movie, and disney show is all the same exact thing, getting famous in highschool and becoming a pop star.. It is insane.. All these movies do is have kids crave adolation and want to be better than everybody else .. Its really terrible. Their aren't any morals or lessons taught of be good to your family and friends anymore, its all about how getting rich and being famous is the best thing their is. It sucks
[QUOTE="CaptainAhab13"]exactly what this guy said. Though "Princess and the Frog" i thought was great. Was happy to see Disney go back to what it's good at.Disney Renaissance was the best. It was all downhill from there... except for Pixar.

I think they're going more towards this style again. Somewhere I'm pretty sure I read something along the lines that they want to stop doing experimental stuff and go back to the classic type of movies they've done that are basically guaranteed to be good. Granted, when people get tired of this they'll probably go back to doing other types of movies again (like the Wall-E/Up type movies, but for now even Pixar is taking a hold on that since Disney now basically controls what they do).
