I think it's pointless when I'm very angry or depressed, which is about...er...50-70% of the time.:P

I think that life is indeed pointless and that there is no universal purpose to life. People may choose to attach meaning to their own lives, which is fine, but I don't believe that there is an absolute meaning to life. You can make your own if you wish, but it's pointless in the end. That's just how I feel about it. I'm sure to some people this sounds depressing, but it's not necessarily meant to be.t3hrubikscube
I completely agree with this view. It does sound depressing, but it's just being realistic.

I think that making people happy/being happy in general is enough to make life not pointless. People that always go around saying that everything is pointless/no meaning tend to be people nobody wants to hangout with and are pretty annoying.

People "high on life" are pretty annoying too. Like I said, you can choose to attach your OWN meaning to life, but there is no absolute meaning. It's essentially pointless, but that doesn't stop people from participating in life and/or creating their own purposes, like the example you gave. Also, in response to your last part, like I said, this view isn't necessarily depressing or negative. You nailed it.[QUOTE="super_mario_128"][QUOTE="t3hrubikscube"]I think that life is indeed pointless and that there is no universal purpose to life. They may be annoying, but they're right.I gained a sense of appreciation for life, and everything about it in 2007. I was wounded in Iraq from an IED, and was MEDEVAC back to the US. I was stuck in a wheelchair for nearly seven months. Anyone that doesn't appreciate life, is missing out. I can't even begin to tell you how much it opened up my eyes, and all the adventures you'll go through.
Those who view life as pointless can still appreciate life...and some of those who don't view life as pointless might not appreciate it. I don't think that the two have anything to do with each other.I gained a sense of appreciation for life, and everything about it in 2007. I mean, if a person does find his own meaning in life, then its not pointless.
So (correcting myself here slightly too), life imo is potentially meaningful. And that meaning is a personal issue. Not necessarily a universal one.
And to pseudo-intellectualise a bit; perhaps there is a universal meaning in life: for all of us to find our individual meanings! D:
And hi. :P
I think that making people happy/being happy in general is enough to make life not pointless. People that always go around saying that everything is pointless/no meaning tend to be people nobody wants to hangout with and are pretty annoying.I used to think leading a happy life used to be the meaning of life too. But then I realize how easy being happy is. Now I'm like "Naw, this can't be it, it's too simplistic." My POV now is that there is no point, there doesn't have to be. If you need a reason to continue living, then that is sad in itself.iBear-

No. It's only pointless when you waste valuable life.
I get depressed a lot too... I also dwell a lot also. :x Doesn't stop me from being happy, even it's only a short amount of time.

The meaning of life is to survive. But if you want to go further then yeah everything is pointless, so it seems.

That's intuition not logic. Logic can't give an answer to this question, yet.
I don't mean it in a negative way, but yes life is pointless. I don't mean "I may as well kill myself, this is pointless", I just mean there literally is no pointto being alive. Sure, once someone's born they set their own goals and then have a point to be alive. But initially, life is pointless.
How so?[QUOTE="T_P_O"][QUOTE="psychobrew"] That is not logical.kontejner44

Then I guess psychobrew could just post: "all of your posts are illogical" if he really mean what you said.Inherently, yes, it is pointless as "point" varies from person to person and on a universal scale, a single life (or even the collective entity of the human species) is basically negligible.
I think that life has as much of a point as you give to it. Do I think that there is some ultimate goal of mankind? Not really, no. There's a short story I read - can't remember by who, maybe Stephen King - titled "All That You Love Will Be Carried Away". That pretty much sums it up in my mind; in the end, it'll all be gone anyways. But even if that's true and it's all just a way to kill time while killing ourselves, I think we have a natural inclination to attach some value to our meaningless existence; we'd all commit suicide if we didn't attach some value - no matter how arbitrary - to the life that we live.
