The show is still good but it used to be great. It took a turn for the worse when every single episode became based around some sort of stupid pop culture thing. And those became the center of the plot.
It's much better than Family Guy is.I concur.I've always liked the show. I find it very underhandedly intelligent and very enjoyable due to both the absurdity and there often still being some kind of a moral lesson.
Easily my favorite.
[QUOTE="XilePrincess"]South Park is only a good show if you don't want any intelligent humor. There are a few little clever things, but it's close to being on par with how stupid Family Guy is. If you've turned your brain off, it might be okay. Otherwise, if you're looking for real quality humor, there isn't much there.juden41

^^this is the exact opposite of what south park is. you have not a single clue what you're talking about. the jokes and themes obviously go right over your head.
I'm not sure how many people still watch it but there isn't much discussion about South Park anymore, despite being highly popular some years back. I think the ratings are somewhere in the 2-3 million range, which isn't nearly as high as I would think (for reference, Family Guy is about four times as much).
For those of you who watch/have seen it, do you like it, or think it's garbage?
Tigerman950
you "think" the ratings are somewhere in the 2-3 million range? translation: you know nothing about the ratings.
[QUOTE="juden41"]Family guy is of a quality lower than turd nublets. If you actually find it funny, you're 12 years old, or younger and SO amused at watching 'adult' tv. South park is really on the same hand. Like I said, some clever jabs here and there, but most of it is racism, sexism, Kenny dies, Cartman whines and makes jew jokes, etc etc etc. South Park doesn't require many brain cells to like. If it's hysterically funny to you, you're probably still getting used to having pubic hair. The older you get the less funny it becomes. By the time I became the 'appropriate age' for either show, they weren't funny anymore. It's much better than Family Guy is.
XilePrincess
LMAO!!!
you know what show requires absolutely no thought whatsoever while having an audience of prepubescent teens? supernatural. irony/
the older you get the less funny it becomes? south park is ALWAYS on the cutting edge of satire, releasing shows weekly about the MOST current of political and worldwide events.
[QUOTE="InEMplease"]Na, it was always bad. They're really bad at writing and nothing is ever thought out. They often have to rely on shock value due to their lack of skills at writing stuff that is actually funny. There is no depth to the show, only stupidity. If you find stupidity funny like I know some do, congrats, the show is definitely for you.I prefer to watch shows with at least decent writing though, stuff that has witt and is clever. The exact opposite of South Park.I have seen every episode at least three times, and yes, it started to go downhill after TEN or ELEVEN years, but the show is indisputably f*cking kickass. The more you hate it, the more we won't really give a flying cat-orgy f*ck.

nah, some of the best writing in showbiz bud with several grammys, emmys and tonys to show for it. "stuff that has witt and is clever" is the epitome of south park.

I think it depends what you mean by intelligent humor. Do you mean jokes and monologues that only academics will fully understand, on subjects ranging from obscure historical events, to the mocking of scientific principles? Or do you mean raw, creative, diverse, witty writing, in contrast to the cliche, predictable, stale writing that is found on most sitcoms.
If it's the former then you're right, there aren't many shows or acts that I know of that really broach humor on those sorts of subjects, maybe Demetri Martin, but that's about it. If you mean the latter, then while still in the minority they're shows that do that. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia has some genuinely hilarious creative, intelligent writing, and while it's not about intelligent topics, it can be pretty witty stuff.

No, I said if you find it hysterically funny, those things likely apply. Potty jokes and the same gags get old very quickly when you're an adult. VERY mildly amusing or tolerable are words I'd use to describe an adult watching this show. Like I said, it stops being 'funny' long before you're in the 'mature audiences' age group it's recommended for. You don't see adults walking around yelling YOU KILLED KENNY and snickering about it together, you see 8th grade children and below finding that funny.Ok, so according to you, I must have a low mental capacity, 12 years old, and getting used to my pubic hair, simply because I like South Park.

Actually, the majority of the audience for supernatural is teen and 20s women. There is very little question as to why (if you're having trouble, look at my sig again, imagining you are a teenage or 20something straight woman). I have never actually met somebody under the age of 14 who watches this show. Supernatural is half-decently written, but do you actually think I watch this show for the deep intellectual aspect of it? No. Especially not after season 5. I watch it for the attractive men who regularly remove clothing, so there goes that point. You might want to go look up the definition of irony though, because in no way is that ironic. And yes, South Park is SO cutting edge with its' pop culture and world events jokes. No, not really. The earlier seasons were far better than the most recent. They made an entire episode about city sushi and city wok 'feuding' because when said with an accent, it sounds like sh*tty. The entire point of that episode was to be able to say 'sh*tty' a bunch of times. That's not satire, that's stupid. I've said multiple times that I do watch South Park and don't mind it, but it isn't quality TV. The comedy has gone downhill, the jokes are tired, and it's been on since what, 97? 98? when being that cheeky put you apart from the crowd, it was taboo. Now it isn't, and if it wasn't for the fact that they could parody current events and have the shows air so quickly, they'd be cancelled very quickly.LMAO!!!

Aye, that's for the USA probably... I'm British. When do we get the new episodes? We already have to wait until next summer to see the new season of The Walking Dead which you guys get in October. :([QUOTE="lazerface216"]Actually, the majority of the audience for supernatural is teen and 20s women. i don't remember the exact episode you're referring to, but i'm positive there was another storyline going on at the same time (like they do with most episodes). plus, that's one episode, which like every episode i'm sure had a moral to it. sure there's potty humour, there's all types of humour going on in south park. what's your point? you can't have potty humor while having intelligent and clever writing at the same time? i don't see why not. i agree the last season or two have been falling off a bit but the show will go down in history as a pop culture phenomenon and one of the greatest sitcoms of all time whether you like it or not. it's obviously just nor for you, but that doesn't mean you should generalize the people who do enjoy it.........like i've done with you and supernatural ( half decently written).
you were claiming that SP was unintelligent drivel for little kids while having supernatural in your sig. lol how is that not irony?
There was indeed a subplot. The episode was called "City Sushi" and the subplot was Butters' parents being fooled into believing he had multiple personalities when he pretended to be something (fireman, truck driver etc. aka normal play for a child). That is not witty, that is stupid as hell. In the earlier seasons, yes, there was some well-thought out jokes. But now it's repetitive crap, and that's what I keep trying to get across to you. It's like saying the nobody likes Meg joke isn't old. It's not the potty humor that's really the downfall of anything this show has come out with in the past 5 or so years. It's the REPETITIVE, SAME JOKES episode after episode. Kenny always dies, Cartman makes Jew jokes. It isn't original, 'cutting edge' or fresh anymore. I still watch it on occasion. I watched an episode last night. actually, and I found absolutely nothing humorous about it (it was the episode about Walmart) because I have outgrown the genre. They made a point and I understood it, but it wasn't funny. Preteens and kids love this show because it's still taboo to them. Swearing is OMG at that age. As you mature, it's not that funny. I'm not generalizing anyone who enjoys it. You can enjoy it at any age if you expect nothing above brainless crap. As I said in my initial post, if you turn your brain right off, it's fine. If you're expecting real quality, or think that it is good quality, you've probably got the same taste in comedy as a kid who still thinks swearing and farting is HILARIOUS. Which, as adults, we know it isn't. And as for your "lol half decently written" comment about supernatural, you obviously haven't watched it from season 1 to 7. It changed hands at the end of season 5, and seasons 6 and 7 were bad, and I absolutely admit that. The writing and storyline were better the first five years, and now it's kind of wishy-washy and season 8 might just kill me because it sounds bad already. Why isn't it irony? Because I no longer watch for the plot, the writing or really anything but the actors. You're assuming because I like something I put it on a pedestal and think that it hasn't gone more or less to sh*t in the past couple years, like you're denying SP has. Nope.i don't remember the exact episode you're referring to, but i'm positive there was another storyline going on at the same time (like they do with most episodes). plus, that's one episode, which like every episode i'm sure had a moral to it. sure there's potty humour, there's all types of humour going on in south park. what's your point? you can't have potty humor while having intelligent and clever writing at the same time? i don't see why not. i agree the last season or two have been falling off a bit but the show will go down in history as a pop culture phenomenon and one of the greatest sitcoms of all time whether you like it or not. it's obviously just nor for you, but that doesn't mean you should generalize the people who do enjoy it.........like i've done with you and supernatural ( half decently written).

The only mold South park breaks it has more swear words and has more shock humor than most shows. That's not good. The first 4 seasons of Futurama is the definition of great comedy writing. Yeah, it has stupid moments, but the show is completely based around stupid stuff like South Park. Futurama doesn't need shock value and curse words to make people laugh, because it had good writing. Sadly season 5-7 are awful. (which I blame Comedy Central for) Archer is another animated comedy show that has great writing.Cartman, Butters, Kenny, Mr. Macky, Mr. Garrison, Terrance and Philip, Chef, that devil and Randy are the funniest characters on there.

i guess we'll have to agree to disagree here princess. i'm 27 and still enjoy the satirical comedy that is south park. i'm not a brainless schlub, i consider myself to have good taste in music and film, a pretty open minded guy. a complete opposite of what you consider a south park fan...
