Do you think the world is overpopulated? There are almost 6.9 billion people on Earth. Estimates show that the world population will be 9.2 billion in 2050.

What do you think?

I remember a week ago I found an interesting census statistic showing that half the world's current popular is desperately poor, as in, make less than 2 dollars per day. As the population goes up, that percentage will probably go up as well. "Poor" people in America don't realize how good they've got it.

There's no thinking involved in this case. The world is overpopulated.

Not now, but It will be. But I think there are plenty of solutions for population problems. Especially with the tech we got now.

I know the world is overpopulated (at least in many areas). That's really more of a fact.

No. The US is capable of feeding the whole world, if it were necessary. Every field that grows animal food could be switched over to human food and support ten times more people.

The big problem with overpopulation though isn't numbers or space, rather it's consumption. And while less educated, lower classes tend to reproduce more, they don't consume nearly as much resources. In terms of consumption the United States is easily the most over populated country in the world.

Sad story, there have been at least 3 cases where Chinese men have walked into a kindergarten class in china and started killing kids because of overpopulation.

Not really.

If we filtered out the extremely populated cities and move out surplus people from there to rural regions, there's more than enough space to occupy them. It's because the cities are overcrowded and people aren't willing to move.

I suppose no one would want to live in the middle of nowhere.

I believe not. The problem is the way we handle our planet resources

Link ( overpopulation is a myth )

No way everyone could fit in Texas . . .

According to the U.N. Population Database, the world's population in 2010 will be6,908,688,000.The landmass of Texas is268,820 sq mi (7,494,271,488,000 sq ft).

So, divide7,494,271,488,000 sq ftby6,908,688,000 people, and you get1084.76 sq ft/person.That's approximately a 33' x 33' plot of land for every person on the planet, enough space for a town house.

Given an average four person family, every family would have a 66' x 66' plot of land, which would comfortably provide a single family home and yard -- and all of them fit on a landmass the size of Texas. Admittedly, it'd basically be one massive subdivision, but Texas is a tiny portion of the inhabitable Earth.

Such an arrangement would leavethe entire rest of the worldvacant. There's plenty of space for humanity.

In terms of physical space, no, but for the necessary resources and consumption to support humans, I would say it is.

Part of the problem is... we help ALL of the morons instead of leaving them to die. Which defies survival of the fittest, the natural order/balance. But it's impossible to be civilized and let people who need help die. Plus if we don't help each other regardless of the circumstances someone one day may decide you or I aren't fit to survive. So it's a catch twenty-two.

Also... humanity created ownership & currency. Our standard of over-population is based on what our system can or can't afford to do. Our system is not based on live & let live. It's not that we don't have enough land or resources to share. We don't share, we hoard & trade.

We create a lot of our problems. Better medicine means less people dieyearly. Safervehicles means less crashes so less people fly windshields. Although Ipods, ccellphones and GPS keep drivers hitting so many pedestrians that it just about evens out.

The stuff we had twenty to twenty-five years ago was so dangerous it was like they were TRYING to kill us.

What about things like roads and buildings other than houses? What about food? Fields and factories ect. It would take up 10 times that space.

Yea we could use a few large scale virus outbreaks (h5n1 where art thou). You can say were not overpopulated (we really aren't) but seeing as how more population won't help Earth any, I say we are.
