true, children are not spoiled for throwing tantrums, they're spoiled if they're rewarded for that kind of destructive behavior. unfortunately lots of parents do that :?

The thing is, with recent society and both parents working, they never learn to take care of their child when they can, then later the kid reaches this phase, when this happens parents don't know what to do, and they get worried of what people may think, so they just go trough the easy way and give the kid wathever the hell they want...

EDIT: someone beat me to this...

Definatly.. i wish i grew up playing computer games.. oh wait.. i did :|

It's not a matter of being spoiled.. its the lack of discipline, morals, values and prinicples that are instilled into kids.

i work in a daycare for kids 6-12, and yes, the majority of kids are little brats who get every from mommy and daddy, and have to earn very little. i'm only 17, but i still earned every single thing i'e ever owned (outside of birthday/holiday gifts)

I think each generation of children are spoiled in their own ways. I think this generation has gotten worse, where they just plainly disrespect their parents.

Parents have little time to educate them and they spoil them to compensate. See the emo phenomenon.

I don't think so =\

I was never hit or punished by my parents and I never did anything wrong. If I have children there is no way I would hit them. Beating your children is very stupid.

For the majority -- YES.

Most kids today never have to work for anything they get. Mom and dad buy them everything they want and don't give them limits like "this OR that" they just get them both. About the working for stuff, I mean that for slightly older kids (teen-ish). And its not the kids fault here its the parents. They don't want to deal with the kid wining so they buy whatever the kid wants. Then they also use the new toys and stuff to preoccupy the kids so they don't have to watch them andactually RAISE their kids!

Which is also the reason that we have so many problems with our youth today as far as crime and such. Because nobody is there to explain right and wrong to them, parents just sit them in front of the TV and let it teach the kids. TV and video games are not bad if used by THE INTENDED AUDIENCE. So parents who let their kids watch rated R movies or play M rated games before the kids reach the age recommended by the MPAA and ESRB are the ones responsible for the kids reaction to such media. This is not the fault of the movie, tv, or video game industry but the fault of the parents who don't follow the advise that these industries provide.

Most posters are in affluent countries. Way to skew the results. I tink that bad parenting is much more prevelant, community interaction is much lower, and your standards are way off. At point in time, people would get one new set of clothes a year. The resources were much less available and there was less opportunity. Our definition of spoiled is being skewed and is continuing to alter as society changes.

There are no more or no less spoiled children, it just seems like there are because society in general is more spoiled.

effthat

you seem to miss the fact that even in the same country some children are much more spoiled than others.

4-year-old/iPhone, beat that.

And no, I'm not joking.

Jesus Christ. I was just learning how to breath at 4.

more than being spoiled, its dumb to give any kid a phone. I mean i really dont think kids need phones till they are in their mid teens at least! But I will prolly have to get my kids someday one when they turn like 13 just because of the culture kinda now dictates it.

Ive seen kids (young children about 3-7) who throw anger tantrums, hit there parents, and break things when they dont get everything to be there way. I wonder sometmes if they would ever grow out of it. What do you think of today's children?_Olimar

yes. kids these days think everything comes easy to them and that putting effort into working hard isn't needed. and in some respects its true because society has lowered its standards for this next gen of underperformers. there will be a huge wake up call when the USA isn't on top economically in their life time.

I think a lot of kids have all of the material things but don't have the experiences that make this all worth it. I've met people who work part-time jobs all year just to finance their hiking trips all spring and summer. They're essentially vagrants. They can go anywhere they want, whenever they want, hitting any trail they want. They don't have a lot, but hell, what they lack in possessions they make up for in freedom and happiness. That's obviously extreme but to quote somebody else, "our vision becomes so narrow that risk is trying a new brand of cereal; adventure is watching a new sitcom." It seems to me like some kids compensate for their boring, narrow-minded lives, unwilling to try new things, by buying all kinds of junk.

Seems like Parents really dont know how to deal with there children thees days..._Olimar

part of the problem might be that in today's world parents are busier than ever. I live in NYC and it's hard to have a house and kids on 1 income. more and more families need 2 incomes now so kids are getting less attention. our economic grow for decades has been a farce. the economy might be growing but that's because we're all working much more and longer than we have in the past. the wealth has just trickled up not down.

BS, parenting isn;t about money. It's about taking the time and the responsibility to do so. My wife and I both work, but we make decisions to keep our children in the best possible position to succeed in life. I grew up in an incredibly poor family with my mother workuing hard and barely around, but she taught us right from wrong. Like every other lame ass excuse out there, it's not money it's personal responsibility.
