[QUOTE="Greenwhitegreen"]To be honest...I would say no...I was shocked the other day to find the difference in pay...women are still getting the lower end of a stick in many areas of life...:(Oleg_Huzwog

I dont understand how that works.... Someone looks at thier paycheck, says "Oops thier name is Patty. Shes probably a girl, lets just keep 100$ for ourselves." How can that be?

I question the claims of women being paid less. Maybe 30 years ago, but today? I'd like to see some evidence of women being paid less then their male counterparts to perform the same tasks.

Women do get paid less...just as women used to get a lower prize money in Wimbledon...if you don't notice it...its because you don't want to...and here is a link that might explain it better to you...http://www.socialistworker.co.uk/article.php?article_id=10186

[QUOTE="Oleg_Huzwog"]If you were an employer seeking hired help, would you pick someone who'd likely need significant time off in just a few short months?_Marisa_
It's illegal to discriminate against pregnant women.

So, because I'll need time off to deliver, I won't be able to feed and cloth my baby?

Go tell all other single mothers that they won't be able to feed and shelter their baby because an employer can't stand someone taking time off to deliver. Better yet, go tell their babies that.

Is that something the employer should consider? All they see is a job applicant who will be unable to work fulltime in the near future. If two men were applying to the same job and one has plans to take a month-long vacation to Europe, can you fault the employer for picking the other guy?

So, what you're saying is that single pregnant mothers shouldn't be hired and so in turn their children suffer? That'sgreat logic you have there.

That article simply states that there are more women employed in lower paying jobs and then tries to imply women are discouraged from entering higher paying fields. You can't take a female cashier, compare her earnings with a male engineer, and claim an unfair example of income disparity. Show me evidence of a female cashier making less than a male cashier or a female engineer making less than a male engineer.

If I'm an employer seeking hired help, my goal is to find someone who can best fill the position. I'm not looking for someone who could most benefit from the job; this is business, not charity. Why should I (the employer) care about your personal situation? All I want is someone who can take the job and do the work for a satisfactory length of time.

That's why there are discriminatory laws to protect others from people like you.

With your thinking, nobody with a disability would ever get a job. By your reasoning, nobody blind, deaf, handicapped, pregnant, female, any religion that needs any sort of time off for religious purposes etc wouldn't have a job. Your mentality makes me sick.

Does it feel good being perfect? I'd like to see how you feel if one day you become disabled and someone says the same exact thing you just said, so you can't work and you become homeless.

You're not worth even speaking to anymore.

Really, though...this is no laughing matter. Women still don't get paid as much as men do for certain jobs. That's how it is for some reason. I'd like to know why.

I believe that overall, women's treatment has been rising amazingly well. Men in women will never be equal, simply different. This is not necessarily a bad thing, either. For example: Women will be less likely to fight in extreme battles during war for the simple fact of physical ability - that's not say women can't do things that are physically tough, it's only in terms of physical build. I think many women mistake being treated as gentle with discrimination. Women are naturally gentle creatures and I find nothing wrong with that. I would never want to be treated as a man is treated. No better, no worse, just different._Marisa_

Women are treated differently in the work-place.

Example: I just got off the phone with a potential employer and didn't get the job because I'm 5 months pregnant. I know it's because I'm pregnant because my mother's best friend works there and the man hiring said it's because he's worried about the pregnancy creating a problem.

Nobody seems to want to hire me because I'm pregnant. The same thing happened to other pregnant women I know (My cousin being one of them)

You do know it is illegal for an employer to ask if you are pregnant during an interview?

Erm, nowadays women > men. Here is an example, and this is not a myth like your examples: My uncle has 3 kids, he watches all of them. My Aunt is an alcoholic chronic drug user, for the past 6 years her condition has exponentially declined. She has threatened to kill her children she has pulled a knife on one of them. She would come home pissed up and OD on the couch, when my uncle would phone the cops they would arrest him because my aunt would lie to them, thankfully the kids obliged to the fathers' plea and was not sent to jail for 3 years. He now finally had enough and is trying to divorce her, he is still married to her and he made that decision 2 years ago. Her quack doctor has been writing her sick notes - btw the reason why I say quack is because he was a huge drug user through med. school and OD'd on prescription drugs therefor he lost his right to prescribe drugs - So instead of doping her up hes been giving her excuses. Every lawyer hes gone through can't win this case, even though for the past 6 years she has been more useless than a vegetable, didn't look after the kids, the court system still wants to give her everything. So far she has his pension's, she gets half his pay cheque every month (to pay for the booze), and she gets half of the house (obviously meaning they have to sell it). Since he just wants it to be over she has been arguing about prices on the house etc... and the court is constantly sympathizing with her its retarded; take for example she apparently hurt her ankle in her house but was found a week later dancing at a bar. Now my Uncle has paid over 6 thousand dollars on this case and nothing has happened. Now you tell me if women are treated equal to men.-R3Volation

Basicall if women want to be treated just like men then they need to giveup all the positive perks of being a womanlike the legal system bending of backwards for them.

As far as the whole Wimbledon thing goes, Women play 3 sets and men play 5. What that means is if the prize is $1,000,000 the woman gets a little over $300,000 a set while the man gets $200,000 a set.

Just going to have to take my word for it since I have no urge to look up the link. There was recently a study completed that showed that women in the workplace were less likely to ask for a raise than a man. I'm not saying that's the only reason men make more but something to take into consideration.

The paid less situation is strange because that should just land them more jobs.. If a woman does the same job as a man for less money, she should get the job instead of him. ;)

But no, I don't think it's equal.

they still get paid like 72 cents for every $1 a man makes, not equalg-unit248

Yeah, but that's because women are just recently starting to attend college in high numbers. There are more women in college than men. So expect that statistic to reverse anytime soon.

a huge thing is salary, so many people complain that women are paid less, or black people are paid less. we did a big study on this in my college, and we found that almost none of the studies took into consideration the quality of the education that these people received, which explained the differences in salary. i've seen so many women get a 4.0 in highschool and a great SAT score, and go to college and major in media or art or journalism, while all the guys with a lower gpa or lower SAT go on to med school or major in engineering, which start out at twice the salary as women and have a more promising future. there is hardly any unfairness now adays. of course sometimes women have it better, bc they are pretty they can do things or get places some others cannont, which causes discrimination for an interview or just getting someones help. also, a lot of times women aren't seen as being able to handle something bc they will "panic" unlike what most people imagine a man as, this comes into affect when thinking about a boss, or a president. but its not a problem, bc most women would say they wouldn't want to be in charge of something as they wouldnt want the pressure, tho there are some that would or could handle it just as good or better. i hate when people claim they are being discriminated, if anything, this country has too much reverse discrimination. women and minorities can get into colleges with far lower grades than a white male, which is very unfair and will probably change soon, as it has change in CA i think.

yes this is true, but 9 out of ten men in a job that makes over 100,000 probably went to a top ten university and majored in a science, business, finance, or engineering degree as opposed to that average woman being compared, where 9 out of 10 in that job majored in public relations, human resources, or psychology. they went into that degree out of free will, knowing that engineers and science majors make far more. these majors and grad school degrees that make so much more money, seem to target men much more than women which explain why men make more. there is hardly ever a women with the same grades, quality of education, quality of university, similar or better degree, previous jobs experience, and personality as in leadership perspective; when compared to a man, that make less than that man. when the quality of education and previous experience is similar or better, the women make just as much as men do. same for races.

Hmmm... it's always about the top dog. People are honoredthrough power. The women don't have the power. Men dominate women physically. Men built &dominate the industrial world. Women were never in the position to demand anything.

Woman expect respect. No man ever got respect via expectation. A person must earn respect. A sexy woman can get whetever she wants. The sky is the limit. A sexy woman pleases men. (most men) so if she has the charm and skillz she can go wherever she wants and get whatever she wants.

I have anews flash for y'all. People don't want to be fair, they want as much as they can get. The real world is highly competitive. It's a ladder and people have no problem with stepping on your face or kicking you off while they are tring to climb their way to the top. So I'm thinking they have enough men to compete with so they don't as it is so they don't want the woman onboard.

Intelligent woman aren't hard to find. The problem is that none of the intelligent woman want to compete. We always get the airheads that get were they are because chronic complainers. Then they have their little I'm a woman in power attitude, they think the facade will last forever. They do something stupid, Not by accident, but because they are stupid. Which just makes woman look worse.

The world is a blame game. Someone is always gonna try to knock you down so they can take your place. So if your not keen, if you don't have the street smarts you won't be on top for very long. It all trickels down.

I myself view women as superior beings... I think the average shmoe on the side of the road still thinks women are inferior. At least, that is what feeling I get when I see people interacting in daily activities at work and at university.

Compared to 50 years ago though, women are much closer to being what they deserve to be... equal.

I think don't people realize that life isn't fair sometimes. Not everyone can grown up to be an astronaut, or a football player, or a doctor. People have limitations, whether it's physical or intelligence.

Likewise, Women are different from Men, both physically and mentally with the way their brain works.

women are treated way better than men. Do you know how many women get away with minor road crimes ?(parking violations, speeding, etc) I bet 80% of women escape. women only get paid less cuz they arnt as qualified. When a women is qualified , she makes money. Even unqualified women make money if they are giving the boss something in return....

depends exactly what you mean and in what ways.

men for the most part always earn more money than women, even if they're doing the same job... it's getting better these days, but it's far from 100% being equall.
