do you think your brain does stuff that you dont know about? They say your only use 10% of your brain at a time. So 90% of the stuff your brain does something you dont know about. Some people will be counting then do an astral projection and when they come back their brain would still be counting at the same pace it was. I think thats one way to tell that your brain does stuff that you dont know about.

I think of it like your brain multitasking. When you take away your ability to control your body you go onto another task. Like in a dream.

Be cool to uses 100% of you brain at all times then you'd have some supernatual abilities.

Of course it does. You don't think to breathe, blink, pump your heart, etc. You're brain is always doing things subconsciously.

Of course it does.

For example, the balance organ in the inner ear consists of 3 tubes at right angles to each other and filled with fluid. Depending on whether you are looking up or down, the fluid in the tubes sends signals to the brain indicating the location of the fluid, and the brain decodes those signals into a sense of "up and down".

Also, the optic center conducts some trigonometric calculations in order to apply depth perception to the signals that your eyes send to your brain.

1. the 10% thing is a myth 2. Yes your brain does stuff all the time you don't know about. You have subconscious thoughts, that you only know about in dreams or something like a Freudian slip. Not to mention all the chemical reactions going on every second that you don't know, it's also telling your body to breathe, pump blood, digest food, etc

So if I got around to getting into my subconscious thoughts I could tell my body to stop the heart from beating. That would be scary if you woke up telling your heart to stop.

... When they say you use 10% of your brain at a time, that doesn't mean 90% of your brain's power is an untapped resource. 10% at a time, then another 10% at another time, and so on, depending on which part of your brain you happen to be using.

Why so surprised xaos? I've done frequent astral projections with Dr. Strange and I'm always counting when I come back.

This is a commonly misunderstood statistic. You only use 10% of your brain at a time because that's the portion of your brain concerned with your current activity. If you want to know what it would be like to use 100% of your brain at the same time, consider what it would be like to contract every single muscle in your body at the same time. That's not the path to superpowers; that's the path to a rather major cramp.

You do use more than 10% though... Just walking includes balance and controlling some muscles, controlled by different parts of the brain...

Well, it's still less than 100%, which is the point.

Oh... Understood it slightly different. If normal is 10%, then even a jump up to 50% would a be huge jump, even more so if going up 100%. However if you use like 80%, that increase to 100% won't seem as big.

However if you are interested in solving a problem, like an equation, it is better to use those part of the brain that can handle that, not involving those parts that deals with emotions, speech centre and so on. Wish I had a link to back me up, but I got no idea if that show is possible to see online and it is unlikely that it has been translated to English as well.

Read "Blink" By Malcom Gladwell. He talks about all the subconscious things going on in your mind that influences your attitude or decisions, that you're not even aware of.

Agent-Zero

Doesn't work like that.

I remember reading in the National Geographic once about a tribe in Africa (I think it was) that could literally will themselves to die somehow and I think it was by slowing their heart rate down until it stopped. I wish I remembered more about it because I was quite young when I read it and I would be fascinated to learn more about that now.

TC I find it interesting to think that the brain could be doing a whole number of things the we don't know about. Sure obviously it is always controlling bodily function, but as a human race we are aware that it does so, despite not generally thinking about it on an individual level. Maybe our brains are actually communicating with the Moon or something! I think it's entirely possible our understanding of the brain in particular is painfully inadequate.

It would be because you control what your body can and can not do. If I wanted to convert my energy into a xbox 360 and I had full control then I could do that.

Of course the brain does stuff w/o my permission... It's not like I'm thinking (while typing) It' (heart) s no(heart)t like I'm(lungs in) thinking(heart).. If we all had to multitask just to stay alive, we'd either die, or do nothing in our lives.

Yeah. When I put my head down and clear my mind I feel things going through my brain. Not much of a feeling but a sense of it. I feel energy and thoughts passing through without me thinking of anything.

I wonder if our brains defragment things o.o
