Do you take great pride in your possessions? Are you quick to lay down hard, cold cash for items to make yourself feel better, or to show off to other people? I used to be very materialistic when it came to buying DVDs and games. I used to prize my collection, and take some joy from seeing the reactions of my friends who'd see them for the first time. But, since I got a new job that doesn't pay that well, I've been forced to reevaluate my priorities and I think I've been humbled by it as a result. Now I realize things like those just don't matter as much anymore. I still get that way from time to time, though, like I wanted to get a new phone right away instead of waiting for my upgrade eligibility date, because I couldn't stand my current phone, but I told myself to wait. My current phone is good enough as it is.

I don't purchase things just for the sake of saying "yes I have this" or because I "need" it. I just buy a lot of stuff because if I see something and I want it, I will get it. So in a way, yes I am materialistic, but its not a be all and end all of something and I can quite easily live without spending money on anything.

Sometimes I feel materialistic like I gotta have this and that, new games and new clothes and new gadgets etc. But I always try my best to control my spending.

I wouldn't say I am. I don't take that much pride in what I have, I'm not a compulsive buyer, and I don't show off. =P

I am at times. I enjoy having nice things and I'm happy when I have things. I have to admit I'd probably get a little upset if I had to give up certain things I own. I'm more materialistic when it comes to electronic items. I enjoy my gaming systems, computer, and music devices a lot. I like to keep updated with those types of things.

Nah not really. I used to buy lots of video games and stuff. When we moved I sold everything besides my favorite books, computer, bed, and desk. I mean granted that's still something, but I'm not too materialistic I don't think.

I never buy stuff to show off but I'm materialistic in the sense that I NEED a half-decent phone, mp3 player and handheld games console. But I'm not someone who needs the very latest stuff. My phone is still quite trendy but it's a couple of years old, my iPod is a year old and I won't replace it until it breaks and I have a DS lite which is a few years old because I'm not wasting my money on the DSi. I don't buy clothes often and when I do I shop at Primark mainly because it's cheap. I don't compete with my mates for the latest stuff or show off but I like to be fairly up-to-date. I prefer function over style. The only thing I do like to show off is my Nikon D60 which I've used on my photography course :)

Hell yes for Primark, T-shirt and jeans for under a tenner. I have very little money so I take pride in what I can afford. My phone is over 4 years old (Sony Ericsson K750i). My mp3 player is an old 2Gb Sony stick thing. My clothes are old byt still "trendy'ish" .I havent bought a game since January.

Haha yeh :) I've got a W810i atm. I'm gonna get a new phone for my 18th as I think my current phone is a bit 'teenager' and I want something more smart and stylish :)

No, I am not materialistic. When I buy an item, I tend to think long and hard about what I want, need, and will truly enjoy.

Not at all. I don't see the appeal of buying something so that you can tell and show everybody that you have it or can afford such an expensive object.

I buy things that interest me and I don't buy them in a compulsive manner.

Despise my hunger to be rich, I'm not materialistic whether I have the latest cell phone or good stuff heck one day you can see me with a $800 cell phone and the next day you can see me with a C130 Motorola those super cheap ones without feeling less. My parents and grandparents always thought me good values if you can say that and by experience one day you can have the other you can't.

Compared to most I'm a messiah. I've come to realise stuff can't make you happy, so I simply don't care much about it. I'd rather spend 1 million on the poor than a car.

They can beg and they can plead,
But they can't see the light, that's right.
'Cause the boy with the cold hard cash
Is always Mr. Right, 'cause we are:
Living in a material world,
And I am a material girl.

Not really no. It's a rare day when I'll spend money on something materialistic. Only yesterday I actually forked out some cash for something I wanted, but meh.

[spoiler] As I walk through the valley where I harvest my grain I take a look at my wife and realize she's very plain But that's just perfect for an Amish like me You know, I shun fancy things like electricity At 4:30 in the morning I'm milkin' cows Jedediah feeds the chickens and Jacob plows... foo And I've been milkin' and plowin' so long that Even Ezekiel thinks that my mind is gone I'm a man of the land, I'm into discipline Got a Bible in my hand and a beard on my chin But if I finish all of my chores and you finish thine Then tonight we're gonna party tonight like it's 1699 We've been spending most our lives Living in an Amish paradise I've churned butter once or twice Living in an Amish paradise It's hard work and sacrifice Living in an Amish paradise We sell quilts at discount price Living in an Amish paradise A local boy kicked me in the butt last week I just smiled at him and I turned the other cheek I really don't care, in fact I wish him well 'Cause I'll be laughing my head off when he's burning in hell But I ain't never punched a tourist even if he deserved it An Amish with a 'tude? You know that's unheard of I never wear buttons but I got a cool hat And my homies agree I really look good in black, foo if you come to visit you'll be bored to tears We haven't even paid the phone bill in 300 years But we ain't really quaint, so please don't point and stare We're just technologically impaired There's no phone, no lights, no motorcar Not a single luxury Like Robinson Crusoe It's as primitive as can be We've been spending most our lives Living in an Amish paradise We're just plain and simple guys Living in an Amish paradise There's no time for sin and vice Living in an Amish paradise We don't fight, we all play nice Living in an Amish paradise Hitchin' up the buggy, churnin' lots of butter Raised the barn on Monday, soon I'll raise a'nudder Think you're really righteous? I am proud to say that I am quite materialistic. Doesn't mean I'm greedy or don't like charity towards others, but when I see something I like and I have the money for it I just go get it.
