The flu shot cannot give you the flu, it is impossible, you may just have a bad reaction to it due to another medical reason. Also the flu shot may not work if you are already sick with a cold or something similar, in fact the flu shot may not work at all depending on who you are. The point of it is to stimulate the production of white blood cells so if you're already very healthy or have a great immune system the flu shot may do nothing or even have a reverse effect. Its why it really isn't recommend if you're between 18 and 50, but no one will tell you that.I'm not getting it, because a flu shot just gives me the flu. . .kinda counterproductive.

I have to get it. I can't get the swine flu. My mom's immunosuppressed (she take drugs to supress her immune system because she's had an organ transplant), and it could be really dangerous if she got it from me.

Well, I also work in the healthcare world....and I think I"m going to skip the shots this year. Every year I have had them I've had flu like symptoms within a week. Isn't worth it to me. I have a very strong immunse system (haven't had a cold in 2 years), so I think I'll take my chances. Very interesting on the 'not recommended from 18-50 '. Do you have any source to back that up? Just interested. Your house doesn't give you the flu. Every single time you comment on my posts, it's with that same flipping emoticon - is everything I say really that funny to you? Please look up "swine flu and sanitation".
The flu shot has not ever given you the flu. :|[QUOTE="Pirate700"]

I caught the flu right after getting a flu shot and was bedridden for two weeks. . .
Maybe you had allergic reaction to it then. There is no way you got the flu from it.[QUOTE="Theokhoth"]

Either the shot didn't work and I got sick right after taking it (the very same day), or it gave it to me. Either way, I have no incentive to get one.

You can still catch a flu, but not from the shot...[QUOTE="Theokhoth"][QUOTE="Pirate700"]The flu shot has not ever given you the flu. :|

The shot protects against the flu(s) they determine are likely to be a problem during the flu season. It doesn't render you immune to all possible flus. You can still catch a flu, but not from the shot...[QUOTE="duxup"][QUOTE="Theokhoth"]

It helps prevent the flu. It doesn't make you immune. Did you get yours at a hospital or doctors office? If that's the case, you probably caught something while there. One of the reasons I HATE going to doctors offices. :lol:I'm not going to say I'm some huge conspiracy theorist...but talk from some has been the goverment has tested things on the masses in the past. Do any of you think this is another case? What better way to get people to volunteer, scare them into thinking H1N1 is going to kill us all, and then create a shortage on the supply (to also create a greater demand). People who would normally not get the flu shot are rushing for the H1N1 vaccine. I mean honestly, is this really a huge deal? More people die each year from the regular flu ....whats so dangerous about this one vs the regular strand? At this point I'm unsure if I'll be getting this shot.boostud
Hmm... you know that a vaccine IS the virus itself, right? It is simply attenuated (incapacitated), and some were even reverse engineered (Avian flu vaccine, etc.).
Jeez. Know your stuff.
Probably, sinec I will be in the health care profession
Also h1n1 is very different from regular flu. Where flu targets older and younger people. h1n1 is targeting people 20-40's. Very different, they are also making this a big deal because the media is making a big deal of it. Everyone knows of h1n1 stats, while barely anyone knows of regular flu stats.
I would have no problem getting it. The level of paranoia and distrust is astounding lately.bluezyMaybe there's a reason for it? The Swine Flu vaccine in 1976 paralyzed a lot of people and killed, I think, 500 people. The flu itself only killed 1 person. Whether Fox News says it's safe or not, there is a risk to getting the vaccine. Is that risk really worth it for a virus that has almost no chance of killing you? That's my main point for not getting the vaccine. I caught the flu a couple months ago and I was almost disappointed at how weak it was. Why the big rush to get a vaccine out for something so weak?
