My Mom played Mario Bros on NES and used to "jump" the controller until she got the hang of it, I was like 8 or 9 and one night she woke me up so I could get her to the swimming level... :lol:
She didn't really play any more games until I got a PS2 and I gave her my old Nintendo 64 and she got addicted to Mario 64 and actually to my amazement got 110 or so of the 120 stars in the game!
My mom loves to play bejeweled 2 deluxe, my 14-year old brother plays mario and luigi- bowser's inside story and the crazy 10-year old brother is an ultra-addict of pokemon games and he always makes some stupid noises during playing his favorite game.
my mom played games when she was younger which was in the PS1 era but now she doesnt, but my dad only plays NBA 2k with me and my uncle has a 360 and PS3 but he only plays sporsts games

Once the person is sold on the idea and have gotten used to interacting with a dead object, you gradually ease that playstation 3 in there, and huzzah! A new gamemate. It´s worth a shot.

My father used to play Mario Kart 64 and Mario Party with me and my mother loved the original Animal Crossing. It has been a long while since they played anything though.
