Well, I'm in med school right now and I suggest you not take it unless you REALLY want it. It's a lot of work, and clinical rotations are not fun at all. Can't wait till residency...atleast I get paid something for all my slaving :x
Oh yeah, and remember that becoming a doctor takes many years. You need a degree or take special premed class (if the school offers it) before you can start your MD degree. The actual MD Degree is about 4-5 years and during that time you have clinical rotations towards the end, which take place at a hospital. Clinical rotations can have you doing 100+ hrs. a week, so prepare to spend most of your time at the hospital. And then comes residency, and you get paid for (very little considering the hours) that and there are actual labor laws as to how many hours you can work as a resident, so it's a bit better than clinical rotations I assume.
Depending on your specialization choice, residency can last anywhere from 2 years to 5 years (general surgery) and if you want to specialize in a particular field of surgery that can be another 2 years. And once you think you are done you will realize that it's best to get board certified as a lot of jobs are requiring that now, so you will need to pass some more requirements and take some tests for that. And your board certification needs to be renewed every 7 or so years.
In conclusion, if you want to be a doctor, be sure you REALLY want it as you will be learning throughout your whole life.
