Look at it this way. If you were to write a book on America's most popular lawyers, it would probably be a thin book. Doctors on the other hand...
I read somewhere that a recent survey said that a large percentage (might have been majority, can't remember) of doctors got into it for the money. As long as they are competent, I don't really care what their motivation is. I got into it mostly because my parents wanted me to, but now I'm really hooked on becoming a surgeon. I've always liked understanding how machines work and fixing them, and surgery is as close as I'm going to get to disassembling the human machine and fixing it. So yeah, my reasons are selfish and not altruistic, but as long as I do my job and help people, no harm no foul.I hate people who just want to be lawyers or doctors for the money. Those kind of people disgust me.

I can not name one popular doctor.Look at it this way. If you were to write a book on America's most popular lawyers, it would probably be a thin book. Doctors on the other hand...

My dad is a doctor; I am a law student. I'd go with med school if I were you. ElraptorDude, me too. (rising) What tier you in?
[QUOTE="HoolaHoopMan"]Doctor, Lawyers are scum.fidosimHey, Atticus Finch was a lawyer, and he wasn't scum! Atticus Finch is a myth.
Both professions are completely different ... unless you become a doctor/lawyer. Many of those exist, they specialize in suing doctors, hospitals, etc. My degree is in accounting so I have more knowledge of law than medical (which is actually zero). Lawyers interpret the law and argue those interpretations (unless something is explicitly spelled out). To be a successful lawyer you MUST have excellent reading comprehension skills and develop the ability to understand and interpret laws accurately.
If you have the brains to become a doctor (most who enter college with the aim to become a doctor fail miserably at it, such as myself!) then go that route. You are practically guaranteed to make excellent money when you come out of medical school. Lawyers, despite spending a ton of money for schooling, make very little money. To increase your chances of being a successful lawyer you must attend an Ivy league school.
The same goes for getting into medical school. Pre-med students are basically biology majors. And if you complete your pre-med education in a rinky-dink school you probably won't be getting into any med school in the USA. For pre-med you should go to a large state university, such as the University of Florida -- or a school that has its own medical school.
Neither of those professions should be decided based on a whim or a GS poll....I'm currently in pre-med now and I don't think I could continue if I didn't REALLY want to be a doctor. You of all people should know what you want to do...don't just do it because it's lucrative and prestigious, or whatever you think it is. Do what you would enjoy most as a career....
Lawyers have a broader choice of careers.lancelot200
Don't know what you're basing that off of, but I'm gonna have to disagree..If anything they're roughly equal.
I would probably choose to be a lawyer, between those.
I like logic, debate, reasoning, and figuring things out.

If you do something against your will and you aren't true to yourself, you're not going to be happy.

You would be surprised. There are tons of different types of jobs in the legal profession. The plethora of concentrations allow for drastically diverse career paths. An IP lawyer isn't going to be doing the same thing as a judge advocate.(unless something is explicitly spelled out). cametallEven when something is explicitly spelled out. There is the big debate over plain language and original intent. (And consequentialism)
Both career don't appeal to me at all. At first I wanted to be a lawyer, but then I thought how I would despise having to defend scumbag criminals who are guilty. That turned me off right there, and chose not to go with that. Also, I pretty much dislike any profession which doesn't have set hours. I want to have a family and actually BE THERE with my family.
As for doctor, I just wouldn't be able to live off having to deal with people dying and having to sew body parts back and stuff like that. Too grim for me and depressing. And the hours are freaking horrible. My aunt and uncle who are doctors are rarely at their homes.
You seem to be really interested in being a lawyer, so go with that. Laws is a very interesting subject, not going to lie. Had to take some Business Law classes for my major and really enjoyed them. Just please promise to be a lawyer with a heart. ;)
