Dodge Ball banned in Schools

...well, at least in the New Hampshire school district. I won't be surprised if this spreads further though. There have been many cases recently of elementary-aged students being suspended for things like Hello Kitty bubble guns among other things. The New Hampshire school district is eliminating "human target activities" and things which promote violence, in this case, dodge ball. Link

Thoughts? Are schools becoming too paranoid?

Fun game. A game you can hit somebody bigger than you. Oh well.

Poor kids. It's fun hitting other people with balls.

Well that's silly. 

I like those schools that try to promote that idea that eveyrone who participates in a sport is a winner.  There are no losers and if you just show up, you get a medal.  Then when those kids go out into the real world and face some kind of adversity, they are clueless.  Sometimes kids need to learn how to lose and get back up again.

If the public school systems continue down this path, pretty soon we're going to have entire generations of kids that are scared to even leave the house.

This is stupid.

Remember, dodgeball is a sport of violence, exclusion, and degradation.  So when you're picking players in gym class, remember to pick the bigger, stronger kids for your team.  That way, you can all gang up on the weaker ones, like Winston here.

It's been banned around here for over a decade

Its been banned in my area since i was in middle school.

the teachers just made up a game very similar to dodgeball, but added in a couple things.

essentially, it was dodgeball,so we were happy.

Pathetic.

People need to stop being so sensitive.

When I was in middle school, they came out with a new rule that kids couldn't trade food or share :P

I think it's just another example of health & safety taking away all the fun things. MonoSilver

Also on the whole bullying issue. I think we're trying to get rid of bullying, which is impossible, rather than teach kids to cope or combat it. There's bullying in the real world, and that won't ever not be true so long as there is compition, dominant people, douchebags and assh*les.

There's this one manager at my work that's a real dick and lays into everybody; tries to over work the people he manages, treats them like crap, tries to blame his mistakes on them ect. ect. One of my co-workers saw this one day, a 60 year old woman, got in his face and told him to knock it off. 

He's now much more docile now and seems to be afraid of her.

kids aren't getting that experience as much anymore. What are they going to do when they enevitably encounter a bully at work, college, at the bar, ect.

Awh, but that game is fun. =(

Dodgeball has been banned for a long time in my district. I wish we had it.  Back in middle school we got around it by calling it medic ball and playing with foam balls.

that's stupid, it's getting banned because that guys kid was being bullied, that's stupid because dodge ball isn't going to stop the kid from being bullied, they'll pick on him at lunch, in the halls, in the bathroom, in the classroom, unless that gets solved dodge ball isn't going to change a thing, just tell the kid not to play dodge ball with those kids anymore, and if he gets picked on by the girls play hopscotch then he's got issues that will require many many specialistslamprey263

If anything I think it'll get the kid more bullied. "What a p*ssy, he cried to his dad to get dodgeball banned!"

I think dodgeball could've even been an equalizer where the bullied kid could actually get back at the kids who were bullying him.
