Completely unnecessary thing. You go to game to watch people play not to drool to some hot braindead chicks.

Yes, the purely Americana nature of cheerleading is purely asinine, but what is worse is the idiotic footstep routine and general glorification of simply graduating from an American highschool- a basic education is nothing any other country in the world rants and raves about. No wonder Americans are mostly so poorly educated. Pull off a BA/BSc and then an MA, MSc or PhD, and then you may have something to act like a clown over...jazzkrotch

I know quite a few happy and smart people who didn't finish high school.

The Barbie doll look does nothing for me. I can see a picture like that and know intellectually that a lot of guys will consider that "hot" or whatever (which isn't a word I even generally use myself in that context, so there you go), but for me just...no. Now whether it's because there is an association with a girl who presents herself in that way in my mind with "complete moron" or what, I really couldn't tell you. That probably is it, but it's hard to say for sure.

So anyway, yeah, I find cheerleading completely stupid, which is probably why so many of the people that do it are.

so you're gay then?

Why do you keep asking if posters are gay if they don't agree with your tastes? I think she looks extremely cliche and fake tbh and I am by no means gay (not that there is anything wrong with that), but you seem to throw it around like an insult.

I prefer natural beauties to hollywood industry clone bimbo types, but that's just me.

No. There was a time in old England when very fat women were considered attractive. I don't really go for that either, but that was some society's standard of beauty and it doesn't work for me so I guess that means I'm gay , right?

I don't see the point to it. All it does it create even more social snobbery in High School, as if graduating a cheerleader makes you better than anyone else who graduates.

As a former cheerleader you all have NO idea how hard it is to be one.

Yeah back in the day all they did was hop around and yell stuff and pump up the crowd but today, it has evolved as a great and difficult and DANGEROUS sport.

It requires dexterity and agility, strength and versatility, a good memory too. Any decent cheerleader will have a background in either dance or gymnastics -- but great cheerleaders will have a background in both. They are there to entertain the crowd and get them pumped and cheerleaders also compete with each other in competitions. There are really great cheerleading franchises such as the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders and the Laker Girls.

Just because you dont appreciate what they do in the sports community does not mean they are "stupid" and "useless".

Sajedene
You know you thought most of them are kind of dumb though. Just admit it. Hell, you're on a gaming forum. Such a "geeky" and on top of that male-dominated hobby is not generally something associated with cheerleaders. Most of them would scoff at something like this website and you know it.

Uh no. Most squads (legit competitive ones such as the one I was in) have GPA requirements to be on the team. It is merely just a dated stereotype now that a cheerleader = airhead.

We've moved on to that when the sport changed. I have a college degree and work a successful job.

When I was in my cheer squad me and a few of my friends were in hard classes (physics, chem, calculus) and HAD to pass them to stay in the squad. We don't just jump up and down anymore yelling our hearts out. Our routines are much more complex.

And honestly, only reason why I wandered into GS is because I don't have a lot of hardcore gamer friends -- and yet I still ended up here in OT because it almost feels like a mission for myself is to be the dissenting voice in what is a predominantly male, most of whom are loner, unpopular, romantically and socially challenged bunch. Someone has to be the voice of the other side here.Otherwise it almost seems like the blind leading the blind.

There's nothing wrong with cheerleading. However, the people that take it so, so seriously are a bit ridiculous. Cheerleaders' parents that take it seriously are even worse.

I hate when people say that cheerleaders are just dumb bimbo's who are nothing but eye candy. I'm friends with alot of the cheerleaders in my school, and my sister is even one, and none of them are just airheads. I've seen what kind of stunts they have to do, and its pretty complicated, and I doubt half of the people here could do it (myself included). While I'm saying some of them are just in it for the popularity it brings, if some of the guys here would get off their damn computer and talk to them sometime, you would see that they're actually smart, athletic people, who just happen to be pretty. (And no, I'm not gay or anything like that, and yes I'm attracted to some of the cheerleaders, but that doesnt mean that I'm going to just focus on them and not the stuff they have to do)

Well the purpose of cheerleading is to "cheer" for the team, and as far as I know it boosts the team's spirit.

Most of the cheerleaders I knew back in high school were airheads, good grades or no. This is based on actually having classes with them, not on them being cheerleaders. This is based on just listening to them talk, not on their grades or what have you. I can't say I've ever known any college cheerleaders. I think it's ironic that you complain there is a stereotype about cheerleaders and then turn right around and present one about "hardcore gamers," which I think is a term that is thrown around pretty loosely to begin with. Here, these are hardcore gamers, if there is such a thing. The average American watches over 4 hours of television a day, but I don't see anyone calling them all "hardcore televisioners."

Just for the record, I think most football players are also pretty dumb. Have a field day with that one. You know something, I actually think most people in general are pretty dumb, so maybe it isn't even really relevant.

I just can't seem to comprehend the idea of cheerleading.

Now, I definitely appreciate the looks of the girls involved :P and I can see that some of the stuff they do is somewhat impressive but for the most part I just think it is completely ridiculous and unnecessary and its not even that entertaining. Who in their right mind would want to be a cheerleader as well.....I don't understand!!!

Anybody else feel the same??

dazman31

I beg to differ.

Also, sports don't matter. At all. I actually enjoy playing certain ones casually, but watching other people play sports = zzzzz. I don't give a crap about which team that is arbitrarily associated with a particular location wins a sports game, so of course it follows that I don't give a crap about cheerleading. I guess I should have mentioned that.

You hit the nail on the head right here. I don't understand why people get all butthurt about stereotypes. Yeah they're stupid and not always true, but if the glove fits - wear it. I've never met an intelligent cheerleader. That's my experience with them, is that they've all been airheads. So what am I suppose to think the next time I meet a cheerleader?

I actually get the gamer stereotypes a lot more than I do the cheerleader ones I myself am not all that socially inept but I know a lot of gamers who are because I hang with them

however I also get how much hard work a cheerleading squad puts in to what they do and its a huge misconception to think that they are doing something easy and pointless

Thank you! I said it before and I say it again... just because you don't understand it or don't appreciate it does not make it stupid. It makes the person who calls it stupid sound idiotic and narrow minded.

It's not a bad thing but i think the name "cheerleaders" and the fact that thier job is to pump up the crowd is a bit stupid, people should be able to cheer by themselves they shouldn't need a "leader" and they should alreay be pumped to see the game they shouldn't need cheerleaders to pump them up

Oh so its okay for you guys to be okay with cheerleader stereotypes but once I bust out with gamer stereotypes based on what I have seen hardcore gamers and the collective group that is GSOT I am not allowed now? How fantastic!Sajedene

It makes the person who calls it stupid sound idiotic and narrow minded.

no problem 8)

It's impressive, but the cheerleaders at my school make me laugh.

As for the airhead thing, I know a cheerleader who wants to become a full time writer because she got 90% on one of her essays. She doesn't read at all, and she can't finish a book. She's barely passing classes. Then again, I also know a cheerleader who gets straight a's, takes extra summer school courses and wants to become a lawyer.

Well, for one thing, I think everyone can agree on what cheerleader specifically means, but "hardcore gamer" is basically whatever you decided to define it as, so it's a loaded comment to begin with. Namely, you could choose to define it as anyone who fits into the stereotype you described, which of course would make the stereotype absolutely correct. I don't think much of anyone is going to argue about what defines someone as a cheerleader, though their may be disagreement about what personalities they tend to have. Anyway, like I said, watching sports does not matter to me. Ergo, cheerleading does not matter to me. I don't give a crap about who wins a sporting competition, and just to be clear, I care even less about who wins a video game competition, if caring less is even possible.

There are way too many stereotypes surrounding cheerleaders. I know plenty of cheerleaders who are just in it for exercise, as it is quite physically demanding.

[QUOTE="DarkPrinceXC"][QUOTE="SpaceMoose"] Most of the cheerleaders I knew back in high school were airheads, good grades or no.

Sajedene
You hit the nail on the head right here. I don't understand why people get all butthurt about stereotypes. Yeah they're stupid and not always true, but if the glove fits - wear it. I've never met an intelligent cheerleader. That's my experience with them, is that they've all been airheads. So what am I suppose to think the next time I meet a cheerleader?

I was just throwing back what was thrown out. Oh so its okay for you guys to be okay with cheerleader stereotypes but once I bust out with gamer stereotypes based on what I have seen hardcore gamers and the collective group that is GSOT I am not allowed now? How fantastic!

I'm ok with any stereotype. Why would I care what other people think? If someone wants to judge someone else by the color of their skin, that's their own problem, and I feel sorry for them. As to your response, I can assure you that I do not fit a "gamer stereotype".

You know what else we find stupid on OT? Bumping old threads. In fact, it's against the rules...although "old" is not very clearly defined.
