I do not see the point of it, but I love it!

Yes, the purely Americana nature of cheerleading is purely asinine, but what is worse is the idiotic footstep routine and general glorification of simply graduating from an American highschool- a basic education is nothing any other country in the world rants and raves about. No wonder Americans are mostly so poorly educated. Pull off a BA/BSc and then an MA, MSc or PhD, and then you may have something to act like a clown over...jazzkrotch
I know quite a few happy and smart people who didn't finish high school.

The Barbie doll look does nothing for me. I can see a picture like that and know intellectually that a lot of guys will consider that "hot" or whatever (which isn't a word I even generally use myself in that context, so there you go), but for me just...no. Now whether it's because there is an association with a girl who presents herself in that way in my mind with "complete moron" or what, I really couldn't tell you. That probably is it, but it's hard to say for sure.
So anyway, yeah, I find cheerleading completely stupid, which is probably why so many of the people that do it are.
so you're gay then?[QUOTE="Vaasman"]She looks boring.and you are gay as well? how could you possibly think that spending any time with that woman would be boring? i could think of many things which would not be boring....like playing risk or monopoly with herI fail to see what's so stupid, my mind's on other things right now.

I think she looks extremely cliche and fake tbh and I am by no means gay (not that there is anything wrong with that), but you seem to throw it around like an insult.
I prefer natural beauties to hollywood industry clone bimbo types, but that's just me.
so you're gay then?lilburtonboy748No. There was a time in old England when very fat women were considered attractive. I don't really go for that either, but that was some society's standard of beauty and it doesn't work for me so I guess that means I'm gay , right?

Yeah, that's pretty much it I guess. You know you thought most of them are kind of dumb though. Just admit it. Hell, you're on a gaming forum. Such a "geeky" and on top of that male-dominated hobby is not generally something associated with cheerleaders. Most of them would scoff at something like this website and you know it.As a former cheerleader you all have NO idea how hard it is to be one.
Yeah back in the day all they did was hop around and yell stuff and pump up the crowd but today, it has evolved as a great and difficult and DANGEROUS sport.
It requires dexterity and agility, strength and versatility, a good memory too. Any decent cheerleader will have a background in either dance or gymnastics -- but great cheerleaders will have a background in both. They are there to entertain the crowd and get them pumped and cheerleaders also compete with each other in competitions. There are really great cheerleading franchises such as the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders and the Laker Girls.
Just because you dont appreciate what they do in the sports community does not mean they are "stupid" and "useless".

Uh no. Most squads (legit competitive ones such as the one I was in) have GPA requirements to be on the team. It is merely just a dated stereotype now that a cheerleader = airhead.
We've moved on to that when the sport changed. I have a college degree and work a successful job.
When I was in my cheer squad me and a few of my friends were in hard classes (physics, chem, calculus) and HAD to pass them to stay in the squad. We don't just jump up and down anymore yelling our hearts out. Our routines are much more complex.
And honestly, only reason why I wandered into GS is because I don't have a lot of hardcore gamer friends -- and yet I still ended up here in OT because it almost feels like a mission for myself is to be the dissenting voice in what is a predominantly male, most of whom are loner, unpopular, romantically and socially challenged bunch. Someone has to be the voice of the other side here.Otherwise it almost seems like the blind leading the blind.
There's nothing wrong with cheerleading. However, the people that take it so, so seriously are a bit ridiculous. Cheerleaders' parents that take it seriously are even worse.
cheerleaders are dancers gone retardedMetallicaKingsYou just quoted one of my favorite movies ever. Thank you! And yeah, cheerleading is completely pointless.
I hate when people say that cheerleaders are just dumb bimbo's who are nothing but eye candy. I'm friends with alot of the cheerleaders in my school, and my sister is even one, and none of them are just airheads. I've seen what kind of stunts they have to do, and its pretty complicated, and I doubt half of the people here could do it (myself included). While I'm saying some of them are just in it for the popularity it brings, if some of the guys here would get off their damn computer and talk to them sometime, you would see that they're actually smart, athletic people, who just happen to be pretty. (And no, I'm not gay or anything like that, and yes I'm attracted to some of the cheerleaders, but that doesnt mean that I'm going to just focus on them and not the stuff they have to do)LZ71OMG a voice of reason in this thread! Thank you!
Uh no. Most squads (legit competitive ones such as the one I was in) have GPA requirements to be on the team. It is merely just a dated stereotype now that a cheerleader = airhead. Most of the cheerleaders I knew back in high school were airheads, good grades or no. This is based on actually having classes with them, not on them being cheerleaders. This is based on just listening to them talk, not on their grades or what have you. I can't say I've ever known any college cheerleaders. I think it's ironic that you complain there is a stereotype about cheerleaders and then turn right around and present one about "hardcore gamers," which I think is a term that is thrown around pretty loosely to begin with. Here, these are hardcore gamers, if there is such a thing. The average American watches over 4 hours of television a day, but I don't see anyone calling them all "hardcore televisioners."We've moved on to that when the sport changed. I have a college degree and work a successful job.

Just for the record, I think most football players are also pretty dumb. Have a field day with that one. You know something, I actually think most people in general are pretty dumb, so maybe it isn't even really relevant.
I just can't seem to comprehend the idea of cheerleading.
Now, I definitely appreciate the looks of the girls involved :P and I can see that some of the stuff they do is somewhat impressive but for the most part I just think it is completely ridiculous and unnecessary and its not even that entertaining. Who in their right mind would want to be a cheerleader as well.....I don't understand!!!
Anybody else feel the same??

I beg to differ.
Thank god for skirts.:D

You hit the nail on the head right here. I don't understand why people get all butthurt about stereotypes. Yeah they're stupid and not always true, but if the glove fits - wear it. I've never met an intelligent cheerleader. That's my experience with them, is that they've all been airheads. I actually get the gamer stereotypes a lot more than I do the cheerleader ones I myself am not all that socially inept but I know a lot of gamers who are because I hang with them
however I also get how much hard work a cheerleading squad puts in to what they do and its a huge misconception to think that they are doing something easy and pointless

It's impressive, but the cheerleaders at my school make me laugh.
As for the airhead thing, I know a cheerleader who wants to become a full time writer because she got 90% on one of her essays. She doesn't read at all, and she can't finish a book. She's barely passing classes. Then again, I also know a cheerleader who gets straight a's, takes extra summer school courses and wants to become a lawyer.
