I mean, my friend and I like listening to Slayer from time to time just to lol at their music (which we both think is awful). So, do people here actually like it, just wondering?

Reign in Blood is a masterpeice of thrash, that EVERY metal head must have heard.B?ut the rest of their discography pales in comparison, and I agree with one of the above posters, about them trying to ride the shock wave. "God Hates Us All?" You are 40 years old, not 13 year old Atheist emo's for crying out loud.
I dont like it at all really, ironicly or not. Never really been into the devil or such.mattykovax
The band members aren't either-- the lyrics are just for fun. The bassist is a Catholic for crying out loud.
I couldn't agree more. It's as if they intentionally remain sophomoric to pander to their fan base (which is constantly in flux due to the fact that people have an odd habit of growing up). I would say that a very large portion of Metal bands do this.Reign in Blood is a masterpeice of thrash, that EVERY metal head must have heard.B?ut the rest of their discography pales in comparison, and I agree with one of the above posters, about them trying to ride the shock wave. I used to but I haven't listened to them in over a year :?
I dislike their style now, I have backed away from trash metal and listen to classic, trance, and rock now.
slayer court controversy to promote their albums. and chessmaster, may i ask, except the lyrics sometimes, what is so funny about their songs? listen to angel of death for once- i dont think there is anything to even smile about it... it is one of those songs with killer instrumental work which is spoiled by the theme.acxler8so wait, are you saying you like the song except the lyrics? Cuz personally I love the lyrics. A good representation of what that evil man did.
Why yes we do....:| Sure they aren't very good lyrically, but they kick ass instrumentally, like most extreme metal, most of the lyrics are not ment to be taken seriously, just to sit back and enjoy the overall music:P
I only own their first debut album and Reign In Blood. I dont care much for their other work, but Hell Awaits is a killer album...
But still better Thrash bands out there than them and the big four.

dude get south of heaven and seasons in the abyss.. amazing songs on both.. abyss is the 2nd best album.. WAR ENSEMBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!.
also slayer lyrics are some of the best written ive ever seen darth.. look at the lyrics to angel of death.. its almost poetic.. use of complex words too lol, whoever writes their stuff is smart, i think its kerry. yeah not all of their songs have great lyrics, but some do.. south of heaven as well... great lyrics.
slayer are one of the best thrash metal bands their are. you might lol at the songs on reign in blood because they are too fast and you think their rediculous. but try listening to the songs south of heaven and seasons in the abyss, they are slower and great songs, all their songs are great.nimatoad2000man I'm being very contradictory tonight and for that I apologize, but I have to disagree with them being one of the best Thrash bands. This may just be because I love it so much, but I find the Teutonic Thrash bands are overall more evil than Slayer. Kreator, Sodom, Destruction, etc. have a more concentrated evil sound for me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KkzMK0IVfhE&fmt=18
[QUOTE="I_pWnzz_YoU"]Why is that? I just don't see the appeal, its all screaming pretty much. The super loud guitar doesn't appeal either. But hey, that's just my opinion. All death metal/thrash metal makes me puke.

Hmmm...
Nah. Slayer at the moment dosen't interest me. What I REALLY WANT is to build a collection of obscure and underground bands. Extreme stuff mostly along with bands that some people are not aware of.

Even if a band is from the same scene as another band, they can sound nothing alike. My list goes like this. 1. Mantic Ritual (just came out with their debut album last month) 2. Kreator 3. Sodom 4. Destruction 5. Exodus
a band that just came out last month with 1 album becomes your favorite band? lol it takes alot more than 1 album to trump 12 great albums that sepultura has or 8 of kreator for me. but ill check those guys out. have you heard evile? they have 1 album out as well and its very impressive.nimatoad2000# of albums dosn't affect the quality of the albums:P

But Mantic Ritual has a combination of Early Metallica (Kill 'Em All), Early Exodus (early Paul Baloff days), and some German Thrash influence. The album was good enough for me to put em at number one.
Not being into metal all that much, I think Slayer are a good band.. Seasons in the Abyss and Reign in Blood are awesome albums.Live Undead is a pretty sweet live album too.Though they hold no candle to Megadeth in my opinion, the Gods of thrash metal...
And metal in general >_> *Flame Sheild*

i said number of good albums.. so if megadeth has 3 albums id give a 10/10 , 1 id give a 7/10, and another id give 8/10 ( CTE) then even tho i like megadeth more than sepultura soely because of peace sells, kimb and rust in peace, when it comes to the fact that sepultura has about 12 albums id give 8/10 and some id give 9 or 10 even ( chaos ad + beneath the remains) .. i have to put sepultura ahead of megadeth on my favorite bands list because they have MORE GOOD albums. i have my own quality / quantity balance system.. of course a band with 10 meh albums wont beat a band with only 2 absolutely perfect albums.
their first 5 albums include nothing but classics.. their is a bit of a slump in some albums after that tho..They have good songs, but they have a lot of junk aswell.

I personally find anything other than Reign in Blood, Seasons in the Abyss and Live Undead is hard to listen to.That said... what I do like by Slayer is excellent.
they actually arnt too hard, sepultura and kreator are way harder.. annd then any death metal band really.I don't really like Slayer. They're a bit too 'light' for me :P
Epak_
They're a "classic" thrash band, but far from the best in the genre. A little too soft for their "aggressive" type of music, and not technical enough to keep me interested.
I never really cared for thrash although I've always felt like a good entry into the more extreme metals.
