I'm 19 and choose not to drink (not 21, but with my family I could get a free keg from my uncles in about as fast as I can dial a phone number).

Me and my mom are the only branch of the family tree that does not drink.

I'm not 21, but no matter what age I am I won't be drinking on new years. I'll always be designated driver, and that's fine with me.

Minimum age in Canada is 18, and I drink champagne and wine on New Year's Eve. I don't get wasted, I just drink to celebrate, it's a convivial thing.

I don't drink.

Why not? A glass or two of red wine every day improves blood flow to and from the heart. Are you so intent on being an elitist that you would disregard your own health?

Wait, why am I even asking? Of course you are.

One of the most ignorant things I've read in a long time. :| Talk all you want about how drinking is so healthy for you, but the painful truth is that it's unhealthy. Period.

QFT and for the previous guy...QFI (quote for ignorance). Just because we don't drink doesn't make us elitist. It makes us intelligent - oh snap - here comes the flaming. Simple fact is - brain on alcohol is more susceptible to doing stupid thing since it impairs the part of your brain used for processing, logic, reflexes etc. If you are drunk, you will make bad decisions. Period. Some of us don't need alcohol to fit in....

Let me rephrase - it only takes one time to screw yourself or, the more common case, others. Drunk drivers seem to always live while the innocent family they slam into dies. Drunks with guns - good combo. Drunks with fire. The list goes on. It only takes one bad decision and so why would you put yourself in a state that causes you to make decisions that are impaired??? Cause it feels good and everyone does it and I feel sad cause no one loves me....drinking = selfish

I would agree that it only takes one bad choice to ruin your life/others' But drinking does not = selfish (though it may be, like many other activities...but it does not equal it) -drinking at home or taking a cab and acting responsibly while drinking is not selfish

This is really ignorant. There are more ways than a glass or two of red wine that improves your health. Make sure you do some research next time so you don't look so ignorant in the future.

The point is you do not need to drink red wine to improve your health.

He's not talking about getting absolutely ****-faced, he's talking about drinking a glass or two. If you only drink that much, you don't even get a buzz from alcohol and don't suffer any impairment.

Those are Jack-Mormons. They're pretty rare outside Utah and Idaho.

aransom

Well I'm not sure about their rarity outside of the state of Utah but they certainly weren't Jack Mormons but very active members of the church. It was a fairly small town with only a two cops assigned to it at the time so they were pretty traditional there.

**** that, it's New Years, I'm getting blitzed!

And no, just because you're drunk doesn't mean you're going to make bad decisions, I'm living proof of that;and I'm going to be drinking by myself (no "fitting in" with anyone), so there goes that logic.

No kidding, right? I was in another thread about New Years and all these people were talking about drinking, I figured I'd only get a few "no" answers.

Calling people elitist for not drinking is the ignorant part. Beer tastes like garbage (in my opinion), wine tastes like garbage (in my opinion) hard liquor tastes like rubbing alcohol (in my opinion) - why would I want to pay extra for something that tastes horrible? Like the other poster said, tehre are plenty of other ways to make your heart healthy that taste better....... #1 reason I don't drink - it tastes bad #2 reason - it cost a significant amount of money #3 reason - I don't like to be impaired - at all.... Well if you don't like the taste or the price, that's a different story. But saying that one glass of wine is unhealthy is hardly true, unless you have an extremely low level of alcohol tolerance.

Legal age is 18 here, and even though I'm just a bit under I'm not fussed. Alcohol is a meh for me. There are various other methods to enjoy myself though.

I live in Canada so Ive been legal to drink for 2 years now. But I dont drink on New Years I actually always stay at home and celebrate it with my family. Me and my dad always have a New Years cigar though.
