I mean, this claim has been made more times than once. It would seem that the claims themselves are becoming cliché.

I would agree that people need to stop posting about the movie. Like it or not, there will be people who like it for various reasons and people who don't like it for various reasons. Can we just move on and wait for the next movie to come out?
Not in a way that we can't express opinions about a movie we enjoyed. I was simply outlining a view which had occurred.I would agree that people need to stop posting about the movie. Well, considering the number of times such a claim had been made, on or off of Gamespot, I figured it deserved a formal address to such a phenomenon.did this REALLY need its own thread?
you couldn't have just posted this claim in the very large, very active thread about Avatar's cliched plot?

As is the way and as is the irony, a thread that will devolve into an argument about arguingaboutAvatar...
It's not going to matter whether or not you post about a movie you enjoy, there will be people who post that didn't like the movie and that will start up a debate about cinematography in general. Indeed, look up the umpteen number of threads about Avatar and you'll see exactly that. I'd much rather have a single, stickied thread to contain it all rather than a thread a day about the movie.
[QUOTE="unholymight"]This thread is cliche Well, considering that the thread has been made once, and the claim is made more than once, it is still relatively not cliche.I mean, this claim has been made more times than once. It would seem that the claims themselves are becoming cliché.

Its more like two or three threads a day, and to be honest, its getting old. I am sick of hearing about the movie in a negative connotation, and those who disliked are doubtlessly sick of people like me praising it to no end...
I don't have complaints about Avatar being cliche. I have other complaints, but a cliched story isn't what bugs me.PannicAtackWell, I couldn't really find anything to complain about. For someone who doesn't like stuff much, Avatar was pretty good.

I had a few things. Mainly that the protagonist is an idiot and that the action scene was completely senseless.
How about "Trope?"
(Glitchspot is preventing me from quoting PannicAtack's post)
Well, it doesn't seem that trope and cliche mean the same thing, so it may not work.

Its futile to convince people to like a movie they disliked, especially over the internet. I agree that we need to let this die.

The strange thing is that I'm not seeing much actual debate about the movie. By that, I mean that I'm seeing a lot of people give their opinions, but little from the actual movie to back up their opinions. And this goes for both the lovers and the haters.
District 9 was sort of a "love it or hate it" movie as well. For everyone who thought it was brilliant, there was somebody saying that it didn't make much sense and was full of plot holes. The thing is that in those discussions, people were citing specific things from the movie to support their opinions.
I don't know why, but I'm just not seeing this kind of discussion in most Avatar threads. And that's making the Avatar discussions sort of boring. It'd be alright if it was actually interesting discussion about the movie. But most of it isn't (this goes for both the haters as well as the people who loved it).
So instead of trying to find a peaceful solution, he decides to use violence, which kills hundreds of people and puts the entire civilization at risk, as a first resort. Maybe it's just because of my pacifist sensibilities, but I'm just not buying it.
I see. Well, I did manage to find justification for the protagonist's actions. Also,*spoiler block I can't quote right*unholymight
I agree
just shutup and enjoy the movie. If you dont like it, fine, but dont try to make some rational appeal to support your cause because the movie is, from a filmmaking standpoint, almost perfect.

You're right, and I'm as guilty as any for propagating my opinions on the film without encouraging any real debate. Its just discouraging to me, being such a huge fan of the movie. I apologize if I've angered anyone.
