I do. I enjoy listening to some of their music now and then....but by no means are they the a better band than all other bands nor do I believe they should get the praise they do.

Overrated by the masses yes. They are good, and at one point were on of my favorite bands. But the masses really play them off for more then what they were. Though about everything in modern music owes what it is to them. Just as the Beatles owed what they were to the likes of Elvis and Buddy Holly. In short. John Lennon>The Beatles.
I just start to find them to simple and boring after a while.

Undoubtedly overrated, but they're not a bad band at all. I'm not a big fan though and the only songs I can recognize are While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Let it Be, Yesterday, Blackbird, Helter Skelter and Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. Their most popular songs basically. I've never listened to an entire album.

I think The Beatles were great. They set the bar for pop music during the 1960s. While I think they were great, I prefer other bands from that era over The Beatles. The Kinks had deeper lyrics, The Stones rocked harder and CCW had waaaay more soul.

I hate every song I've heard from them. They sound like a 60s boy band to me. The only reason they get praise is for being a old band.

You have to look at it in context: they were revolutionary back then. Something different. Having said that their songs are timeless and can be reinterpreted etc

Actually if you look at them in the context of their time...they weren't that different. They originally played covers and pop songs influenced by bands such as The Crickets. Even their name was derivative.

I don't really like the Beatles myself, but I recognise and appreciate that their music has influenced and impacted on nearly every band/genre we have today.

In the early years, thats true...

But are you telling me that an album like Sgt. Peppers was "derivative" for its time? They pretty much invented many of they own modular effects andrecording techniquesfor that album, and the level of experimentation they used with the studio equipment, they were years ahead of their time.

Brian Wilson had a nervous breakdown over that album :|

I do not use the word overrated... it is loaded and meaningless. You not liking something doesn't make it overrated. Just because you don't like them... or don't like them that much... it means they got too much credit and or recognition? So anyone can decide something is overrated and it just is? Nothing is overrated or underrated. Things happen when music gets released... they got exactly what they got and that's it.

Never understood that statement, how were they "years ahead of their time" when all the stuff capable of making their music was available at their time, if anything they were just more creative at the right time, not ahead. Even by the standards during their time, they didn't display exemplary talent, just great harmony.

You're both right, more so you, but yeah, Brian Wilson was inspired by The Beatles' Rubber Soul, and made Pet Sounds, which in turn inspired Sgt Pepper....

Music wise? WAAAAAAAY overrated. Not horrible, but they aren't gods in human flesh, they are average at best. Influence? Its impossible to deny their influence over the genre, they are NOT overratted in their influence.

Here is a quote....

In fact, the Mothers of Invention's Freak Out pre-dated Sergeant Pepper and is considered by others to be the first concept album – a sneering farce about rock music and America as a whole. Paul McCartney has said it influenced Sgt Pepper considerably

This is just people trying to bring down someone else's success. It is pathetic. It is not only music... it can be any accomplishment. A lot of the time it is people who don't even know anything about the thing they are bashing. Truly a joke.

Not one bit.

The Beatles have more great songs than most bands have songs.
