Yeah, I understand what they did for the music industry but that doesn't change my opinion that they were a really ****ing boring band.

Considering how the Beatles are responsible for some of the strangest songs in the history of popular music, it is my opinion that you have no idea what you are talking about.

I could respect the opinion of somebody who says that they don't like the Beatles' music, or prefers other bands or styles of music, but somebody who calls the Beatles' music "boring" is revealing that they have not listened to very many Beatles songs at all, because the Beatles are responsible for some of the strangest music in the history of popular music.

I just think it's funny because my best friend is a HUGE Beatles fan and I love to hear him bicker :P No offense to you or anything.I love you Beatles fans, can't take anyone's opinion [QUOTE="Flame_Blade88"][QUOTE="swamprat_basic"]

I have heard almost every last Beatle song because my friend plays them to death, and I think their songs are boring and not entertaining...[QUOTE="swamprat_basic"][QUOTE="Flame_Blade88"] I love you Beatles fans, can't take anyone's opinion :lol:CHOASXIII

Thank youuuuu lol No one ever wants to believe me lol[QUOTE="JustPlainLucas"]Well, they said they were bigger than Jesus, so yeah... maybe just a little bit.Joshywaa
I think that quote was blown way out of proportion.
John Lennon was saying that they were more popular than Jesus during that time period. He was right. There weren't millions of screaming girls fainting over public bible readings during that time (1960s). There were, however, millions of girls screaming and fainting over The Beatles. They dominated popular music. They were all over the media.
Jesus, on the other hand, was maligned and hated by churches, government and scholars while he was alive. His following was miniscule compared to that of The Beatles. That's what Lennon was saying.

I have heard almost every last Beatle song because my friend plays them to death, and I think their songs are boring and not entertaining...Oh, there are great number of Beatles songs that I do not find entertaining. I actually enjoy very little of the White Album, which many consider to be their best work.
But as much as I don't really enjoy the music on the White Album, I certainly do not find it "boring." It is far too strange and experimental to be considered "boring."
ehh any mega popular band is always gonna be overrated, just because not everyone will like them, and thus the people who dont like them will say they are overrated haha,
Considering I literally just from a Paul McCartney concert in Miami, no, they are not overrated. The concert was AWESOME!
I think they are. I still love them though.
But around the late 60s the Beatles were already very outdated. Bands like the Rollling Stones already had much more advanced music.
The Beatles were the forerunners to Pink Floyd.
Syd Barrett's Pink Floyd picked things up where they left off initially.
Overrated has got to be the second most overused term in the history of the internet (second only to lol).
Yeah. They've made a lot of crap and too few real gems.super_mario_128*hands flame shield* Good luck....
Considering they are almost unanimously considered the best band ever, on every list, I think so. But there is no doubt that they are one of the best bands ever. They are certainly one of the most influential as well. I think they are only slightly overrated.
Do you not see an inherent flaw in that statement?Undoubtedly overrated. I've never listened to an entire album.

It's pretty silly to go saying that bands from the 60s were over-rated because you were not alive then (unless of course you WERE.... but even then...). The Beatles were so amazing because they did very different things and consistently surprised people with their new work because it was usually radically different from whatever they had done previously. You must understand that music in the 60s was not what it is today. At the time the beatles were pretty revolutionary. Ninja-BearActually if you study music history...you'll find nothing revolutionary about The Beatles at the time. In fact, their initial popularity was due to girls which created the hype. It was only some time later that they become more than a teen idol band. The music they created initially was pop music as well which was not quite so revolutionary either. There were other British bands creating more interesting music at the time but without the hysteria and thus not as "legendary" as today.
I'm not saying The Beatles were an inferior band but they weren't the only band in existence with talent either. The media created the legend. The Beatles created the music with much help from George Martin.
A new type of recording console allowing for twice as many tracks was created exclusively for their use in creating the White Album. They then used all the tracks on THAT and had to have another, even better one commissioned. :| It was also said at the time that their song 'Tomorrow Never Knows' was the absolute epitome of what could be done with a recording studio at the time, and that quote comes from Brian Eno, probably one of the best sound engineers and producers the world has ever known. In that respect i feel your statement is entirely incorrect.Never understood that statement, how were they "years ahead of their time" when all the stuff capable of making their music was available at their time, if anything they were just more creative at the right time, not ahead. Even by the standards during their time, they didn't display exemplary talent, just great harmony.

[QUOTE="ex-mortis"]Do you not see an inherent flaw in that statement? I don't. Unless you are implying there was one hidden gem on a Beatles album that makes them earn the accolades. Remember....the singles are what generated the hype. I think it's fair to use them as an assessment of that hype.Undoubtedly overrated. I've never listened to an entire album.

When people are massive Beatles fans, very rarely are they discussing the band's obvious beginnings in mainstream pop music, which was pretty much the ONLY kind of music around at the time. When someone says the Beatles were revolutionary, they're talking about their hallucinatory songs, their blending of Indian music into pop music, the White Album, Revolver. By the way, saying that you don't like the Beatles is an indictment of yourself more than it is of the band.
Have you listened to a few highly regarded Beatles album from start to finish more than once? (Such as Abbey Road, Revolver, or Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.)
Until you've done that, you can't discuss the Beatles with any merit. It would be like a blind guy saying Picasso is overrated.

Then credit George Martin who actually had a lot to do with the innovations of The Beatles in the studio.LJS9502_basicIs this a proper discussion of the Beatles or a character assassination? How many bands work with producers? Should everything Radiohead ever did be discounted because it was produced by Nigel Godrich? Should we say David Bowie isn't any good because his music was produced by Eno? Whether their ability to use the studio to its maximum potential was catalysed by an excellent engineer is irrelevant; it was still the beatles who produced the music and not only that but the IDEAS which required that kind of expertise to make it possible.
Does one need to hear every single track to form an opinion? No I don't think so. LJS9502_basicYou need to listen to at least ONE album.
[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"] Does one need to hear every single track to form an opinion? No I don't think so. Ninja-BearYou need to listen to at least ONE album. Why? One can definitely get a feel for their music from the popular songs. Every album is represented dude.;)

I've never said The Beatles weren't good. I said they are over rated and thanks for making my point. In addition....Martin was very much instrumental to their success. Bit of character assassination to deny his influence.
