I don't want this to sound ignorant and I'm sure christianity isnt the only religion to do this, but it seems one thing they use alot is fear tactics. The whole hell thing for example, if you do this then you will got to HELL where god sends you to burn in pain and torment forever and ever...yet apparently he loves you:? Tough love I guess. Please don't think of me as ignorant, i research and read up on many religions and I am very opened minded. It kinda reminds me of the VOTE OR DIE thing that happened a while ago. I welcome different opinions, just try to keep this civil for once, at least for a while please:)

Pretty much every religion uses fear to induce belief. Fear to induce good, moral behavior.

Well some christians do focus on the whole turn or burn...Not all do though. I would say we can't make a generalization and say all christians use fear tactics but I think it is safe to say that some christians do. I know of a few sects that avidly focus on the hell part but others who more focus on the jesus loves you accept his love. It is kind of a complex topic. Definetly not one that can be generalized.

Fear tactics to do what? Christianity gains nothing by you following it, it's all personal choice.

I thinks some guy just arbitrarily created the idea of hell one day, as a way to persuade people to obey social codes and stuff. I think all of our decisions can be explained by psychological laws, so I find it ridiculous how anyone can think certain "decisions" are good or bad and how some supernatural force will act on you if you do this or that. Because in truth the way someone is is purely based on opinion, and there's not definitive thing saying what makes someone "good" or "bad". That just seems so stupid to me.

Hehe... yes they do.

The Nikaya (Theravada/Mahayana/Vajrayana) Buddhist Hell (Naraka) is far worse than anything imagined in western religions. In Abrahamaic religions it is pretty much either the suffering of being without God or that of Dante's Inferno (which really isn't anything spectacular). In Buddhism you spend a finite amount of time (millions or billions of years in some cases) being tortured in horrendous ways for your bad karma... horrendous.

Other than pretty much Zen Buddhism, all sects of Buddhism use very strong fear tactics to inspire believers to do meritorious actions and avoid the sufferings of Hell or lower realms.

what about buhdism? anyway, christianity is pretty much saying do this or die!! but in truth alot of christians sin. judging is a sin. christians do that everyday. (dumb example) if someone smells bad they're like i dont like that guy because he smells. this is why i choose to be aethist because most christians are ignorant, judgemental jerks.

NO. We are all forgiven for our sins thru the death of Christ, and have motivation for the bother of accepting it thru God physically resurrecting Him( the Easter message). If we do nothing, it's just an 'unopened letter" from God; He's not a dictator. The unforgivable sin was the Pharisees saying Jesus did miracles cuz He was empowered by satan.EVERYBODY is covered, potentially, with but a sincere prayer. ROMANS is a great read about this, esp. Chapter 8.

Yes they do, although protestant denominations are slightly less guilty of this when compared to the Catholic Church.

We have broken our friendship with God thru sin, but Christ has done a tuff job of restoring that available friendship. We have already done what seperates us from God, as he can't have 'angels with dirty faces'" in His holy heaven Jesus gives us the power clean up.It's only a moment of humilty (which can be done in private ) to restore that. The hard part is telling others you did - and for the rest of your life at that.

We don't use 'fear tactic's. We're completely honest in what we believe. God love you, he loves everyone. If you accept Jesus as your savior then your get eternal paradise, but if don't claim to know Jesus, then he won't claim to know you in the second judgement. It's as simple as that.

Definitely.

You can choose to believe if you want...but you'll burn in Hell for eternity if you don't.

That's scare tactics alright.

And if you do something that goes against the rules of the religion you get to spend eternity suffering in Hell... those are fear tactics.

I would like to point out that saying "we don't use fear tactics" is um...Well you cannot speak for all of christianity.... You can speak for yourself and only yourself. There is one christian group in my town that on friday nights stands on a street corner and holds up signs that basically say "turn or burn" How is that NOT a fear tactic? I am not saying all christians do or don't use them but if you are a christian yourself that doesn't mean you can say with 100% certainty that no christians use fear tactics.

No, I think in Christianity you are allowed to choose your path. You can choose to go live following God's will and go to heaven, or you can live doing bad things and go to hell. It is that simple.

concentration camps gave you a choice, as well. though one choice gave you an appearance of swiss cheese, if you get my drift.

Yes, and they often use Pascal's Wager along with the threat of hell to attempt to convert people. Obviously not all Christians do this but people have attempted converting me with such threats.

Well christianity teaches if you don't beleive in the God of the bible and Jesus you go to hell for not having faith in them. Which is ironically what people deserve.

Yes christianity does use fear, but you forget the enormous amount of love it has to.

Its both hell for your sins and your lack of faith.

Jesus pardons you from your sin for your faith, allowing you to enter heaven.

He will forgive anyone who beleive and had faith in him. Then you will be judged by God.

IF Jesus took your sin, you are inocent in God's eyes, if he didn't you are sinful and must be punished. Hell.

Here is my view on Hell. It is a place of Darkness and void of God, not grimstone and fire. The fire (I beleive) is metaphorical for how you will feel when seperated from God.

One question, should you go to heaven with a God you never beleived?

Many Christians do use fear to convert people to Christianity but that creates a false impression in the mind of the converted of what the Gospel really is. The goal to becoming a Christian is not to prevent harm to oneself but to acknowledge who God is and what he has done... The reason someone should become devoted to God is out of thanksgiving for his grace not out of fear of what happens from disobedience. Grace and coming into the Kingdom of God is central to the teachings of Christianity. Being feared into Christianity often produces a halfhearted Christian. An example being that a man should marry a woman out of love and not out of fear of being alone.

God of christianity doesnt forgive sin. If you break any one of the ten commandments your screwed. Only through Jesus are you able to go to heaven. He takes the sin for you. And i think God loves you alot to send his son for you.

All humans deserve to go to hell, but you are saved through Jesus should you accept him.

He sent his son to die for you, thats love enough...battlefront23
Hardly matters if you're struggling to believe. If he thought, God loves me as he sent Jesus, then why would he even be doubtful of God in the first place?

Somtimes I guess. I think they try to appear impassive in claiming that you can go with them or enjoy the hellfire, or at least, a lot of them do. that's not to say they're not nice. They are and a lot of modern Christians barely try to convert other people at all, and just focus on the more generous aspects of the religion. I think that's very nice but I can't really deal with the imperfections all throughout the religion.

All humans deserve to go to hell,123625
Argh. No, we do not deserve to go to hell. Nothing can justify eternal torment and suffering. Nothing. End of. That is my belief. If it conflicts with the views of this loving God then so be it.

Read John 3:16
