Does Christianity use fear tactics?

Well it is somewhat,how can the idea of hell not strike fear in you,also the bible in a few cases states that a fear in god is the right way to live life,Ecclesiastes:"fear god and keep his commandments",now that makes alot of sense,because for example someone who perhaps thinks of killing someone else will think twice about doing it because he has a fear of going to hell,and Christianity would of spark this into the man.

Fear god essentially means fear hell and sins,wich is obviously a good thing,however i can see how using fear in other religions can be used for evil.Fear can spark good or evil.

Its natural for man to be doubtful of God, in fact I always pray to God if I am doubtful, and He always helps me out! :)

Yes christianity does use fear, but you forget the enormous amount of love it has to.

Its both hell for your sins and your lack of faith.

Jesus pardons you from your sin for your faith, allowing you to enter heaven.

He will forgive anyone who beleive and had faith in him. Then you will be judged by God.

IF Jesus took your sin, you are inocent in God's eyes, if he didn't you are sinful and must be punished. Hell.

Here is my view on Hell. It is a place of Darkness and void of God, not grimstone and fire. The fire (I beleive) is metaphorical for how you will feel when seperated from God.

One question, should you go to heaven with a God you never beleived?

Is believing jesus existed enough though, not believing the messiah thing I mean. What about buddhists or muslims and the rest? Do you think they deserve hell? I don't think god loves me that much if I am doomed to hell:(

This may sound like a dumb question, so forgive me if it is. Why can God only have one son? He can create whole worlds, but he can only have one son? Maybe i didnt read the explanation for that in the bible, my memory isnt always great:P

Too true. Any Christian who "justifies" eternal damnation as a "punishment" for lack of faith can and is labelled as a dogmatic bigot in my books. If the religious people don't agree with me, then what can I say? "Go to hell"?

So Jesus is the nice son who wants to forgive everyone, while god is a sort of mean drunken father who either beats you with a belt or says he loves you? I know its a weird comparision, but thats how it seems to me.

If it doesn't have some form of fear inducement, than it isn't a religion. Buddhism, while might seem like a religion is more of a lifestyle more than anything else.Moroes

Buddhism started as a philosphy, it changed over the years and became a sort of religion. It is one of the most adaptable religions around however, you can have buddhist beliefs and philosphies and still be a christian, muslim etc.
