Does it matter any more to have credits?

Every movie I go to at theater, the entire audience will get up and walk out as soon as the credits roll. The ten guys who help build the sets, the assistant who help pour the director coffee, and the person who puts on make up would never be known to the general public. Almost every movie is made now wont have a single credit at the beginning, the movie would just start right away. Television have pretty close have done away with credits, they would have a half of screen and within 10 seconds the entire credit have rolled while the next movie is starting.

It makes me wonder if credits in movies and video games really matter anymore. Why not just opt it out of the film and just have a sheet of paper mounted on the wall at the theater or have a website like credits.org that they could point to if someone is really that interested. Video games have options have seeing the credits at any time without waiting.

Only time I have sat around for the credits is if they do something at the end of the movie, otherwise I'm up and out as soon as the screen goes black. I can't stand them to be honest and have never really saw the point to them. I say whooptie-doo to all that nonsense.

Lots of movies have stuff after the credits, so it makes you stay. Not that anyone actually pays attention during the actual credits.

does it really matter? Probably not, but the movie makers want to give to credit to who helped in the production.

I suppose they're contractually obligated to do that - it serves as a permanent record of everyone who worked on the project. They go way overboard with it though, making you sit through 5 minutes of co-executive producers before the movie starts. And what sense does it make to list the names of the actors in the opening credits if we don't have any idea what character they're playing? I get so bored with sitting through a list of names while some "artistic" pictures appear on screen with some boring music. I guess I could just FF, but I dunno.

Low budget film makers will sometimes only have enough money to film about 75 minutes worth of movie, but they call it a 90 minute movie because they've padded it out with 5 minutes of opening credits and 10 minutes of closing credits. Makes it sound more like a "real" movie.

It's not for the audience, it's for the people who helped create and nuture the film to it's final product. It's a homage to them.

I stay lots of the time to see if there's stuff afterwards.
Sometimes nice music
Sometimes good to read names of side characters like "Angry Elderly Lady" instead of a usual name.

Well it depends really. Almost every movie I've watched I leave when the credits starts rolling. But sometimes when I end a game, such as ... ehmm mass effect 3 ending... Left me with a shock that I didn't even pay any attention to the credits. I just stared right into the screen and was totally speechless.

That's like asking people to stop sourcing their work. No one reads the reference page. It doesn't mean that it doesn't have a use.

i watch them sometimes because that's when it's okay to talk to your friends about it or make plans for the next move or catch a cool clip at the end.

on some movies, there are stuff after the credits, so its worth it to sit down and wait unti the lights come on fully in the theater before leaving
