Simple enough question...If somebody wants to die, is it okay for them to kill themselves?

I acknowledge the topic is very subjective...but some scenarios I'd rather not see are things like, "If you're on a burning plane and would rather shoot yourself before the impact" or, "If you're on death row", nothing extreme like that. I don't think that's too hard to follow.

For now, I'll just say...yes. If somebody believes their life has become meaningless to them, why not allow them to end it?

I think so, however, others have the right to try and persuade them. But some people don't choose life, and that's just the way it is.

You should have to fill out a questionnaire and talk to a counselor for a week before being allowed a death permit.

People with severe problems (medical, etc)would be charged an "express charge".

You can see a psychiatrist or take medication for that....

Even if you did. A lot of them have a low cure rate. I'm pretty sure Schizophrenics(The severe ones) rarely get cured. Also, I've NEVER heard of a case where Anti-Social personality disorder has been cured, and that's probably the most emotionally damaged disorder EVER.

That's what I find odd really, that people think a law will help, it's not like a law changes it... "I better not blow my brains out, they mightsentance my corpse to a hospital".

Sure. I mean if they want to then let them. If someone I'm dependent on dies because he or she wanted to, then I would just think to myself the words "**** happens."

Who's to tell them they can't? Heh, I c wut u did thar, too. We had another one the other day called "Is Suicide Right?", but this question really swings the other way. Suicide is a scary word, and 'right to die' is a way more glorified way to say it.

Yes....its your life...you make choices about that life...do you go to school?...do you get a job?...do you get married now or later or at all?...so why should Should I die? be a no no in society?

If you take your own life...then I see no fault in it...if somebody takes your life w/ you wanting it I call that illegall, but if you don't want to live..Kill yourself...

Oh Good Christ, I was actually moronic enough to leave out what many are mentioning, and that factor is crippling medical conditions. Well, I'm clarifying now that medical problems are not to be considered in this thread. I think that's an entirely different topic. My apologies for not making that clear in my first post.

Only if they're seriously ill in pain. If they are in such a condition that they are unable to even take their own life without help, then they should be able to ask for help.

I think people should be allowed to kill themselves if they choose to. It may not be the right choice but hey it's there life and someone else shouldn't have to tell someone else when to live or not.

I think taking your own life because you don't 'feel' like living is sick, you hurt everyone around you, and it makes everyone remember you as someone who killed himself.

I had a friend once, who didn't rly see the point of living, and I tried to persuade him to not do it, we always talked for hours, he wanted to commit suicide and he was really down. he eventually got to his normal self, but if he had killed himself then, I would've been a different man than I am today.

that's what's up...

but: if the person in question is terminally ill, or has another really good reason to do so, we understand

Does emotional pain count?

For me it would only be a chronic or terminal illness.

You can recover and move on from emotional pain given time.

Of course suicide & wanting to die isn't a good thing.....but I think people have a right to make decisions regarding their own life.....I mean....our body is our own property......it shouldn't really be anyone elses concern what the hell we do with it......except for family & friends.....but you get the picture.
