all I see are a bunch of games that many other people would have in their top whatevers, taste IMO is all about defending those imperfect games that fly under most peoples radars, selling it where other people have failed to, I don't see that here, can't really get that in lists like this
Eh, not really. The list reflects the demographics of the folks who frequent "/v/", so its a bit heavy with certain genres and stuff from the last 15ish years.
Street Fighter 2 doesnt make the top 100? Pfft, okay..
My first thought was that Dark Souls is way too contemporary to be considered the greatest anything of all time.
Am I the only one that thought of something very dirty when reading the topic??
Lol that's where I thought it might've been heading...

What does age have to do with it? A good game is a good game.

I suppose I was making the point that good games often become great games when viewed through the lens of history. How many games can we say we enjoyed when they were released, but say 10-15 years later, we realize that in a historical context, that they were part of a small group of games that truly defined a genre, or a console, or an era of gaming?

I'd think that would be more relative to "classics" than the "best games ever".
The whole point of evaluating a game at the time of it's release is to determine it's quality at the time of release.
If this were a discussion of classics, I would agree with you.

Right, and Dark Souls, by critical standards, was reviewed as a very good game at the time of release, right? I'm simply pointing out that it may not still be viewed as a good game in 5 or 10 years, however, most of the games on that list have stood the test of time and manage to maintain their status as good (some, even great) games.
horrible list. Some of my most hated games on there: Nier, red dead redemption, grand theft auto IV, the world ends with you, dragon quest 8 and others
Gta V and vice city are not even on the list. Sorry but this list is a nope for me.
