As a young 18 year old I normally don't think of death, but it hit me hard today how we and all our loved ones die. I mean, our lives basically start going downhill after mid-life, and we can only do so much in the little time we are given.

And then death hits us, where we lose all our consciousness (still can't fathom this) while the world continues to go on around us.

Makes me sigh, OT. I weep for our mortal lives.

Me right now:

No if anything it's freeing. Could you imagine living forever in this world? We are clearly only meant to be here for a short time. This topic reminds me of Tolkien's Silmarillion and the theme of death seen in the book. The elves live forever and yet they constantly yearn for more, you can only be so happy before you must find something else to provide that happiness. The men on the other hand are given the gift of death which while initially seems bad is actually a blessing for mankind.

Right now in my life some times dying doesn't sound half bad.

Most days however sure it worries me some.

But why waste our time worrying about death anyways ? We are all going to die eventually why not enjoy the ride of life until we get there ?

I've been there, man. I am sure other people have been too. But I came to the conclusion that Death is out of my hands and worrying about it isn't worth 2 s**ts, so instead of doing that, I should worry about making my life as awesome as I possibly can :)

Pretty much how I approach it. Death is inevitable. So stop worrying about what you can't change, and focus on what you can, which is the life you live until that death.

Sure. I mean, I'd move out of the way if a car was about to hit me, but the idea I'll die eventually doesn't bother me. I feel the opposite that I still quite a bit of time to go (and I'm significantly older than you). Just try to enjoy it bro...

Hardly, it makes me happy. I get to be a blob of atoms in a cosmic soup that was given the chance to know where it came from and its placein the universe. That I get one chance at it and can live in a time where I can know so much about my surrounding and the history of it and enjoy it with others brings me joy

Other people's mortality saddens me more than my own as I likely won't notice when I shuffle off this mortal coil, but I will certainly miss my friends and family that pass before I do.

dying suddenly does scare me sometimes.

dying eventually does not.

every story has to come to an end at some point and you've only got so much running time to go. so don't waste it.

If you enjoyed it doing things that others think is wasteful, you did not waste it if you genuinely enjoyed it.

I used to think about it a lot when I was younger, not so often now. The best thing to do is keep yourself occupied doing the things that makes you happy. Everyone's going to die some day, but dwelling on your death is a waste of time.

When you have a family member suffering, you realize that death can be a blessing. That was the case with my Dad, who passed away this summer.

While I don't want to die anytime soon, I am thankful I will die one day and leave my legacy to my child.

I think you need to be made aware of howinsignificant you really are. Your life means nothing. What you do means nothing. If you died, the world wouldn't notice. You are just a spec of dirt in a universe filled with things much more imporant than you

**** nothing is more important than anything else. Stars, planets, and all living creatures that we know of are all composed of the same basic ingredients. As for life meaning nothing, that's complete crap. Life means whatever you want it to mean. Even saying life means nothing inherently gives value to life.

It bothered me when I was your age. Now I've come not only to accept it, but somewhat welcome it.

I've had brain cancer twice, been through all 5 stages of grief, and even wrote my own eulogy just in case. I'm tired.

The thought of living forever scares the shyte out of me, and I personally think it's the height of human selfishness that so many people want it.

The thought of having to die doesn't really sadden me as much as it gives me major chills when circumstances allow me to have a deeper understanding of what it means to die.

Yes my mortality really saddens me a bit. I would be lying if I said otherwise.

I mean what's the purpose of inventing warp drives, super-intelligent supercomputers and nanomedicine if we are all going to die one day? It looks like it's all for nothing really.

None of our dreams are going to become true if we are all going to die so why even waste time pursuing dreams?

Sometimes I wish the the forests were enchanted and that we could stay eternally young, eternally free and eternally happy.
