What do you like so much about it?

Cause I either was paying enough attention, or this movie is just plain overrated.

Well, it requires SOME intelligence to decifer.  Which quite a few people seem to lack here.

The reasons its so good tho, is the very good acting, character development, plot, and set dressing.

What makes it a masterpiece? I've seen the movie enough times and don't see what's so great about it. I'm not trying to bash other people's taste, but the love for this movie just doesn't make sense to me/

He did at the beginning. A major part of the movie is showing how Donnie's mental stability is questionable. Stuff like that is suppossed to get you to question his sanity and whatnot..... He is a troubled character and his troubles make him a great character....

Besides, the kid was kinda insane.

Also, the reason he cared about Gretchen so much, is prolly cause its the only person hes ever felt really close to.

I've seen both. The Director's Cut is superior. The effects are smoothed out, it includes 20 minutes of great footage, and it makes the story easier to follow.

Like when they show the chapters of the book.

Amazon.com or Netflix. BTW, it's really not that horrible in terms of content. It may include 42 9th graders on an island trying to kill each other, but it is done brilliantly. Read the novel first, and if you can handle that, you can handle the movie no problem.

You know those pages it shows from the book? That footage isn't in the original. There basically is just more footage and a different opening song in the directors cut.

Amazon.com has a great version. It's the Special Edition, which includes smoothed out effects and about 10 minutes of footage. The DVD, unlike a lot of transfers, has great subtitles and a load of special features.
