Anyway, I don't think it would make much difference if a country was entirely atheist. There's always something to fight about.
Yeah but if you think about the sheer size of the buildings and explosion for that matter, it's a different story. That's kinda far away, bro. At that radius the dust and dirt clouds still harmed people and, is only two blocks away from ground zero.[QUOTE="jaydough"]

No, YOU show some freaking respect. Muslims died on 9/11 too, you know; with you acting like they're celebrating their victory with this mosque (something they aren't doing at all) you're essentially saying "YOUR losses aren't important!"The human right to free religious expression trumps the want for a shallow and self-centered idea of "respect" any day.

There are many families of the victims who are for the mosque. Besides, the only reason the GOP created the 9/11 Mosque debate is to distract/cover up their blockage of the 9/11 early responders bill. It's idiotic to say the least.[QUOTE="jaydough"]

Only 64 muslims died in 911 ( god rest their souls ) A 15 story mosque looking down at the cemetery of Ground Zero in the location of a building partially destroyed in the 911 Islamic attack is wrong. My ideal "atheist" nation would still be secular, which means you'd get religious people living there after awhile. The only way to make a nation "all-atheist" is to criminalize theism of any kind, and I don't think that's really the kind of place you want to live in.
what would that change ? the religiouse people already dont have any hand over atheists.gubrushadow

That's not true.....:|Aside from the constitution, most if not all the laws created are done so with strong influence from religious morals and views. For example, the largest reason against gay marriage in america is due to that of most religions frowning down upon it. Not to mention at this point in time it's impossible to get elected or even considered to be president unless you are Christian. Stronger examples can be seen in other countries albeit with a dash of zealotry and extreme positions which is kind of an unfair example.
I'm hesitant to say that it would be a good idea because it's not like atheists are better friends and/or better citizens than theists. It would be nice to have something in common with every other citizen, but that doesn't necessarily mean that I would be better off there than in a nation with theists in it. Ultimately I would say no to your question.

I stand corrected. IIRC though, it was after he was elected that he announced his beliefs. Please Log In to post.
