we've all heard it there are starving children in africa whenever we didn't finish our food as a kid but just until recently i actually really thought about it before i just thought you know it was another thing parents just said i mean i guess i felt bad but they never really seemed real as a kid but now i kind of look at it a diffrent way now as an older indivdual and it makes me feel bad for them but more than that i feel guilty but is it my fault that i was born in a wealthy country and others weren't i was just wondering if any one else feels guilty like i do even if it is out of my control

Some times it comes to my mind, but then I realize that I can do nothing. Eating all my food isn't going to save those children.

People are born into different situations, there is no controling that, but I guess just feel grateful for what you have.

I always wonder about it. I actually went to Africa with a group of people to help re-build a town and supply the people with food. Safe to say, that was the best experience of my life.

i feel that way every time i got to work, cause i work in a grocery store and we get big bags of flour and large containers of water, and if they are even slightly damaged, as in a tiny tear in the bag of flour, we have to throw out the whole thing, and every time i do it, i feel like im contributing to the problem by wasting all this food, sadly there is nothing i can do about it.

It saddens me to see other people in horrible situations and I realize I could just as easily be in those situations. Some people thank luck, others thank God for having grace on us. I hold the latter view. I thank God he has blessed me in the manner he has because I know I do not deserve it more than anyone else. We are all peas in the same pod, some are going to be at the front, others in the end. Only by God's providence am I where I am today.

Yeah I work in a fast food joint and we throw out sandwiches that someone doesn't want just because they don't like a sauce on it... or we throw it out when its cold but still edible, I keep saying why not send this "bad" food to places that need it Im sure they don't mind microwaving cold food, and we have a bunch of homeless people under the bridge we can just give it to them. (then again they spend all the money they get on alchol, then try to get free sandwiches from us so...)

Nothing at all? I can't say I agree. Charities are an easy way to help not to mention actually going over there like an above poster.

Eating the food won't mean they get the food. That's what I always said to them when they said that :D

I don't really care, to be honest. Some people on the other side of the world I don't know starving to death would never make me pass on lunch.

Yes...

That is true, but the way a person gets out of that situation and works hard to find a way is a person that should truly be respected.

Asian parents drill it into when you're young that wasting food is a terrible thing to do; they make you finish every grain of rice lol. Of course they tell you only about the starving kids in Asia; they don't care about the African kids lol.

Sure from time to time, you realize the insane amount of food you can buy anywhere with $10. But you play the hand your dealt, and try to help out however you can.

Sometimes but more ofteni'm annoyed that people are telling companies to stop exploiting poor countries but fail to realise that's how pretty much every country in the world developed, just because some have passed through it dosn't mean it can't be done anymore. Also aall these chaarities that do things with such little effect for the ammount of money they spend, it's much more helpful to give an African village a pump than buy half a microscope for a cancer reasearch lab.
