Like most americans I was introduced to anime through DBZ, so I respect it for what it's done... but after watching other animes it's only slightly above average. The series should've ended like it was supposed to with The Cell Saga, but the Buu Saga ruined everything...
(I seen the whole series back in 97 when I was 12 when anime was available at little stores around the city on VHS spent my afternoons after school watching DBZ before it got big on Toonami a couple years later)
It is the Grand Daddy of anime though, so it should be respected.
I love Yu Yu Hakusho much more(had a 10x better ending) and Cowboy Bebop. I wouldn't say they are the best animes since there's so much new anime out nowadays it's hard to keep up.
good anime and the one i used to get my friends into anime but far from the best.My favourite is Ranma 1/2,reasons being it is very funny and it started alot of animes visual gags and if im not mistaken was the first harem anime which is the best genre as it the funniest
Considering its the only anime I ever liked, and still do like, I would consider it the best anime of all time.
No but it is certainly the one of the most successful series (second to one piece) and undoubtedly the most influential. While old Dragonball was much better than DBZ, you cannot deny the impact DBZ has had on the anime/manga industry. DBZ put anime on the map plain and simple. In fact the anime/manga industry would nowhere be as big as it is now without DBZ and I guarantee that most anime fans in the western hemisphere got into anime BECAUSE of DBZ.
Many series that we have today woudln't even exist if it wasn't for DBZ.
You gotta respect your elders.
most popular =/ best. it usually means mainstream, and with themes acceptable for the whole family. 100 episode + shouyen cant be good, too much filler and in it just for the long haul money.. 2 season anime's are where its at.nimatoad2000
That's a pretty ignorant statement.
Well, you should try giving other animes a chance but it's your choice.Considering its the only anime I ever liked, and still do like, I would consider it the best anime of all time.

[QUOTE="wado-karate"]Well, you should try giving other animes a chance but it's your choice. Anime just doesn't appeal to me though, I don't remember why I liked Dragonball. I just remember that it was awesome.Considering its the only anime I ever liked, and still do like, I would consider it the best anime of all time.

I might be in the minority here but i always liked the original Dragonball (when goku was a kid) over DBZ, but i'd say neither of them are the best
Well it's my favorite, so it's the best to me. Obviously it's not a complicated story, nor are the characters very developed, so it's understandable why so many others would rather brush it off as shonen garbage.

most of my friends, including myself would agree... Dragon Ball was a much greater/better series than DBZ....
It was most definitely my favorite. I also enjoyed Yu-Yu Hakusho. Man, why'd Cartoonnetwork get rid of Toonami?!
Um how about no? Why would I want to watch someone powering up for 10 episodes and then have 1 minute of badly done fighting?
Or the classic 10 minute stare down before actually getting into the fight. lol I swear, time in DBZ is truly screwed up. 5 minutes in the anime equals 40 in real life. They say a bomb about to go off in less then 3 minutes, but it takes the entire episode to truly go off.....Um how about no? Why would I want to watch someone powering up for 10 episodes and then have 1 minute of badly done fighting?

In MY opinion, DBZ is the best anime of all time, I can understand WHY people wouldn't think so though. All down to opinion and tastes really.
I say its the best because it did the most for anime..But there are other anime's with better plots. DBZ's characters are awesome.

I've seen a place where I can download it, but didn't think it would be worth it after watching Dragonball GT.....Um how about no? That is actually pretty interesting, I just looked it up but I still don't have much intent of watching it seeing how kiddy DBZ still is but hey least it's better than Naruto.
Hmm people i came to a point to think when reading every comment.. DBZ first came in the 90s in america and this is the 2000 era and dbz is still selling dvds and other meterial this may not be the best anime but! This is the most succesful anime maybe of all timeyonaswii08
Doraemon is arguably more successful.
