[QUOTE="iam2green"]i kind of feel that the video the adio wasn't the same or something. so it sound crappier.... but after watching other videos it seemed the same thing. they seem to play by computer. Funky_Llama

They're playing in a different key. I don't know why.

That's why they get the famous name, "StudioForce".

[QUOTE="GabuEx"][QUOTE="Funky_Llama"]

I woudn't enjoy music as much if I knew that the person I'm listening to has no talent; a lot of the time, I want to be awed by the skills of the performer.

Funky_Llama

I'm not so much saying that it doesn't matter whether or not someone has talent. All I'm objecting to is the idea that people ought to shun new technology that makes things easier just so they can say they did everything themselves. Unless people have made their own guitars and amps by themselves, and then made their own generator to power the stuff, they're already getting a ton of help from people who did part of the work for them. I don't see the problem, then, with using other things to do other parts for them as well. The way I see it, the less time you have to spend on boilerplate grunt work, the more time you can spend actually being creative. The very foundation of human civilization is making use of things that someone else has already done in order to make it so you don't have to repeat the same work.

Bah. I'd just be happier in the knowledge that I'm listening to the work of a musician, not a sound engineer. Plus, there's the matter of expression - which, when the sound is altered artifically, is lost.

would you go see the engineer in concert then?

[QUOTE="Boba_Fett_3710"]Oh big whoop. It sounds great and that's all that matters, you do realize that almost all music is digitally mastered to sound better, right?! Hell, there are even entire genres of music that were made completely from digital instruments.Funky_Llama

Well, yeah, because most music is made by talentless idiots.

All professionally recorded music is edited now. It doesn't matter what genre it is. Even live performance recordings are touched up after the fact.

Pfft. Thanks to the magic of the editing studio, talent is no longer a requisite.

Funky_Llama

Have you recorded before? Edited or not, the notes must still be played. A studio can't make you sound musical. And I really disagree with the notion that one need not be a talented musician to be a recording artist. As someone who has done both, I can tell you it's every bit as demanding as solo performance.

Yet another dragonforce bashing thread.

What is it about this band that pisses people off so much? If you don't like them, don't listen to them.

First of all, PANTERA is REAL metal.

If a song is REALLY hard in a video game, it must mean its REALLY hard to play in real life right?

Dragonforce can't even play their OWN songs live, because its too fast, their used to having a computer program clean up their messy playing and speed it up. PROOF: http://youtube.com/watch?v=bblDQiGAni8

Heres the super intense intro riff from Fire and Flames:

6-6-6-6-6-6-8-6-6-6-6-6-6-8-6-8

If you've played guitar before, that is pretty ****ing easy. And before you come running in here waving your arms telling me to take a music theory **** I'VE BEEN PLAYING FOR 10 YEARS. I know there stuff is anything but innovative.

So what it comes down to is that, like them or not, Herman Li is a horrible guitarist, All of there songs sound the same, they cant even play at the tempo they recorded with LIVE, theres not a single live video of them playing some song CLEANLY, and they are anything but technical.

-

With that knowledge, people, do yourself a favor and listen to some REAL technical stuff, you know, like Metallica? Or some REAL innovative stuff like Pantera or Van Halen.

DlMEBAG

I agree with your point on Dragonforce - they suck and they can't even play their own songs live. But I quit this whole 'only listen to true real metal argh!' thing when I was like 13. On another note, I wouldn't consider Pantera or Van Halen very innovative, as their music seems very basic to me. What I'd call innovative is Virus (the one from Norway), Ved Buens Ende, or Fleurety.

You couldn't be more wrong. If you can't play live, you're not a talented band. I could play DragonFarce's "music" better than Herman Li can. They're a complete joke.

TM_Darkside

Totally false. People need to understand that performance and musicianship are separate skills. You can be an excellent musician but a lousy performer. And conversely, you can be an excellent performer and a lousy musician.

my favorite example: Britney Spears is more popular than Mozart, does that mean she got more talent? hell no.

Wow, that is actually a really good example.

Metal sucks in general. I think that's why you guys get all mad at sucky metal bands. Deep down you know 'your' music is just a random mish-mash of sounds that are totally incompatible with each other, but your arrogance keeps you from coming out and admitting it. Thus, you begrudgingly listen to the orgy of noise that is metal, and because of your deep-rooted insecurity you unsympathetically bash on those whom have a slightly different taste than you.

Just kidding. I'm actually starting to warm up to metal, at least the instrumentals. The vocals will NEVER grow on me.

there are many different vocal **** in metal. you can't say that there isn't at least one you like. same goes for the music itse;f, there is a good chance that no matter who you are you can find at least one sub-genre, or even one band that falls under the umbrella of Metal that you like

It still sounds cool, it's nice to hear something different sometimes and I applaud them for not doing something unoriginal and safe.

And I knew that they would suck playing Live way before anybody told me about it.

I think the only reason why Drogonforce is suddenly so popular is because of all the non-musicians/casual music fans out there who have bought the Guitar Hero/Rock Band products and suddenly, like Lemmings, Dragonforce is on the map!

It was a different time, though. In Mozart's day, most professional musicians were attached to the nobility somehow. It wasn't that they were necessarily spectacular musicians (in fact, a lot of mediocre musicians were often preferred to the ones we now recognize as geniuses), but simply that life as a musician in the 18th century meant dependency on people with money, because there wasn't much in the way of a general market amongst the predominantly poor lower cIasses.

The manner of Mozart's burial indicates a great deal about whether he was respected for his genius or not.

ferret837

I'm not in a position to argue this, since I don't care enough about this band to have looked into it. But bear in mind that playing in front of a camera is in many ways no different from playing live. You're still on the spot, and it's nearly impossible to convincingly edit mistakes out of a video recording. If you don't think this feels different than playing for yourself or playing in a recording setting where butchered passages can be re-recorded, then set up a video camera, pick a lengthy piece of music that challenges you technically, then give yourself one chance to record it flawlessly. I'll bet it doesn't feel much like practicing or playing for fun!

Recording studios can only do so much. Not until you do some studio recording will you understand that it's not a magic bullet, and that ultimately, your playing is still what will make or break a recording.
