This band is a joke. Pretty much an excuse to show off "mad crazy guitar skillz."NearTheEndNo, that's DragonForce.
who cares about metal anymore anyway. its far too muh
too many bland bands, which includes dream theater

Great musicians, but pretty unoriginal music. I have a few of their albums, and while I like some of their material, they borrow a LOT from other bands yet fail to nail their own signature sound.
I think the instruments are great!
I think the vocalist sucks way bad!

Absolutely. Their singer does not fit. Check out Liquid Tension Experiment. It's basically Dream Theater without their misplaced singer...who should be playing second fiddle with Kenny G or Sting.
[QUOTE="Clampdown79"] I hate Dream Theater. H8sMikeMoore
because of the power chord love?
No way man, I dig a lot of prog such as Porcupine Tree, Tool, King Crimson, Meshuggah ect: I like those guys because they brought something new and exciting to the genre of prog rock. All DT tries to do is ressurect the pretentious prog of the 70's with endless solos, cheesy synth, and over-the-top arrangements. It sounds stale and boring to me. It's just not my type of thing.
Frankly, they're geniuses. They don't just "play super fast", they have incredible song structure and timing, and layer their instruments very creatively. The side project "Liquid Tension Experiment" is also incredible. Atheos-Arkhaios
this, the "omg they just like to show off their skilllzz" arguement isnt a good one since it goes alot deeper than that, they are great song writers, they are among the most talented musicians around that are all in a single group together and lets not forget they are PROG rock here so it's kind of expected that theyall composed complex parts to their music.

why did you just revive a 5 month old thread? :S Just make a new one
Why make a new thread when others already exist? That's why they have the search option.....
i think that they're all INSANELY talented musicians at a technical level.
That said, their material ranges from rocking to elephant tranquilizer. Same goes for their live show at times.
I don't like them. They're like Tool except with 1/4 of the musical talent. (With the exception of John Petrucci) I don't like them atall.KOTORkicker
That's your opinion and all, but I think Dream Theater is a tad bit more talented than Tool.

I think Tool, King Crimson, Meshuggah, Porcupine Tree etc. do you what you are saying much better than Dream Theater ever have.

Without taste? Tool, King Crimson, Porcupine Tree, Soft Machine etc. do all the things you have just listed a hell of a lot better, and with much more songwriting prowess than Rush-esque guitars with some tinny crappy drumming.
EDIT: Seems the ol' disappearing message trick hasn't been gotten rid of, eh?

... And that's your opinion also. I just don't buy in to their premise.

EDIT: Another disappearing message! Seems like this is a common bug....
