Dubai is a disgrace to every Arab. It was build by European engineers with foreign money and slave labour. Nothing to be proud of, quite a lot to be ashamed of.
Sorry TehFuneral.

there are alot of "foreign workers" in the Gulf , though usually foreign workers don't get paid nearly as much as a local doing the same job. though from what I know, Dubai itself has no oil, the other countries in the UAE dothat's why arabs will never flourish , whenever one of them does something good, all the others will do nothing but criticismDubai is a disgrace to every Arab. Well the slave labour is pretty clear. Most of the labourers are brought from South Asia and paid very little. As for the foreign engineers, watch any documentary on new buildings being built or whatnot and the architect and civil engineers will always be European or American. As for the money, all the buildings are built with money from billionaires and companies headquartered outside of Dubai. It's not "Arab." There's no real local economy. It just looks nice. That's about it.[QUOTE="BossPerson"]that's why arabs will never flourish , whenever one of them does something good, all the others will do nothing but criticism....no, when they do something that's actually good, I will applaud.Dubai is a disgrace to every Arab. I hear Emiratis (sp) are goven first dibs on everyhtig and no one that is biologically an Emirati can ever become a full fledged citizen.
For once, something we agree on. BUT, try to get the full picture, THIS is miles better than the other option, which is just coughing up more money in their swiss accounts. This wasn't built by average Emiratis after all, you know... I suppose in the end, it all comes down if the general majority of Emiratis are content with it. It's none of our business. And personally, I am happy enough if Emiratis are truly happy. They are after all, our bros in blood, for "all intents and purposes". ;)Dubai is a disgrace to every Arab. I suppose its kind of the same.

been to dubai a few times and found it a really chill place which i'd love to live in someday ,since i'm more of a modern city guy and i don't really find ancient architectures as appealing as some folks do.also lol at calling dubai soulless for the city does have it's own unique character you wouldn't find anywhere else.you might not find that character interesting, that would be understandable, but it's definitely there, that said it's a really stupid thing to say it's not an achievement for arabs just because ome of the owners or architects aren't dubai inhabitants.plus dubai has this policy which prevents foreigners from actually owning most of properties in dubai, there are only 99 years leases.

So why are you whining about someone joining your PUBLIC conversation?
They are smart to take their oil wealth and invest it into building a middle eastern version of Luxembourg. The oil wealth will only last for so long. KC_HokieI actually think Dubai doesn't have that much oil , its mostly the other UAE countries that do. although I suppose they support each other alot.

Darkman2007I actually think Dubai doesn't have that much oil , its mostly the other UAE countries that do. although I suppose they support each other alot. From wikipedia: Oil reserves in the United Arab Emirates, according to its government, are about 98 billion barrels (15.6×109 m3), almost as big as Kuwait's claimed reserves. Of the emirates, Abu Dhabi has most of the oil with 92 billion barrels (14.6×109 m3) while Dubai has 4 billion barrels (640×106 m3) and Sharjah has 1.5 billion barrels (240×106 m3). So, the oil isn't really serious business there. Or at least it's nowhere near sustainable.

And they were smart to invest it similar to Luxembourg and Singapore.

it certainly looks beautiful - at least i think so.
I can appreciate the old architecture as well as the new modern archietecture.
i haven't gone to Dubai yet, would like to one day. my dad and brothers went and they seemed to rather like it, but they were just there for a week so, i dunno what it's like after you've been there for a long enough time.
from what i know the Emirati's are horribly outnumbered even by the neighboring Arabs living and working there as well. Nevermind the huge labor force they have there, and the foreigners from around world living and working in their sky rises.
In one sense alone is it something to be proud about, however the use of labor force (which is a huge problem in all of the Gulf) it still shows what an Arab country can build in a very short amount of time -relatively speaking. sadly a lot of it has to be outsourced to accomplish it.
All of the Gulf should strive to limit their stupidly over-reliance on cheap foreign labor.
Rather like how Saudi has tried approaching the problem so far, trying to build quality education universities, like the Princess Noor Universities, or KAUST (which again has mostly foreign professors teaching there). have an educated base to build the country organically. The tricky part is how do you get to employ the uneducated to do the manual labor task, a job that is almost exclusively done by the huge foreign labor force.
Dubai looks fantastic, but what i see is beautiful gleaming towers and lots of toys. in other words, it's beautiful skin, but it has no bones or muscle to support it.
Well, its my hometown; born and raised.
You can call it whatever you want, but I really love this place and I enjoy lots of benefits provided to me here. It is not perfect, there are a lot of problems. and no, we are not as big or wealthy as you imagine us to be, but we do enjoy a community bond between each other... but forget Dubai, Its a great feeling knowing that an entire nation is ready to move its resources to help a mere citizen out; I've had many arabs and non arabs confess that they are jealous of this. Also, we interact with many westerns and easterns, there is a reason that my fathers and forefathers do know how to speak different languages. I'm sure I never met anyone who was forced to come and work here, and I've met a lot of people and from various ethnicities.. better yet, the people I know have loyalty to this place as much as we natives do, some who even lived here before I was even born.
Also, we sure as hell don't admit that we've acomplished any of this on our own. Heck, most of us are just decendants of bedouins, fishermen, and merchants.
nice place, I would have visited if I wouldnt have gotten arrested at the airport :P would have liked to visit Egypt too , but I value the connection between my head and my neck....Well, its my hometown; born and raised.

About that.. I never really understood what happened after the contradicted mossad assasination, but I guess Israeli passports are not acknowledged as a traveling document.
But we do have lots of European Jews here.
