As a huge hip-hop fan my vote goes to the East Coast. I mean groups like the Wu-Tang clan can destroy anyone in the game. Not to mention all the classic Hip-Hop albums that come from New York.

look I'm tired of these elistist Hip-Hop morons trying to label all rock as "emo" that's the stupidest choice on that vote. Rock is in no battle with hip-hop neither does rock care about hip-hop and it's popularity, especially since most good rock act's are basically independent this decade, and the reason hip-hop is popular is because it has the mainstream audience that loves crap.

I'm a hip-hop lover, I'm black, but I have to say that Hip-Hop and hip-hop fans have become to insular and elitist and a stereotyping ignorant scene for me to stay around it. I'm not that kind of person, neither do I want to be associated with those kind of people, and belive or not Hip-Hop was all but that, and was founded on the same merrits as punk, being a scene that broke away from that same old, and the opression and poverty.

I'm don't know where this whole hip-hop popularity test came in (I'm guessing with late 90's rap) but hip-hop sucks, not because of the music, because of the ignorant un-worldly fans that it has. Hip-Hop isn't the end of all means to music, it's far from it,

And on the matter. East Coast Hip-Hop burns them both. Being that west cost is dead and trash, the South is thriving and trash, and why are we still pulling this 90's argument anyway? Since when has hip-hop become an army of little Hitler opressors?

Oh please. Enough with your whining and crying.

You don't think hip-hop listeners get any insults cause of it's music. Hell 90% of people who are over 30 years old consider hip-hop music. You don't thinked hip hop gets sterotyped into all "gangster gangster." Every OT thread about hip-hop at there are least a couple of poster posting the usual line "rap is crap." Saying a whole genre of music is bad because of some fans is pretty stupid.

well east coast takes the cake obviously there's no denying that but the south is not that far behind. Outkast, Goodie Mob, Killer Mike, UGK, Nappy Roots, Eightball & M.J.G., Slim Thug, Z-Ro, Scarface, DJ Screw all have quality mixtapes and albums

Booo Effing Hoo. You don't fight fire with fire, fight ignorance with ignorance is only going to lead to way more ignorance and so on. You saying all rock is emo when emo is only a small portion of rock that not many posters on this board like. And the fact that mainstream music basically touts Hip-Hop as gangsta isn't making it any better for your case. While rock has many images in the mainstream and emo being one of them and it's still not very popular amongst other. Do you even know the difference between emo, and scene? And what music just get's labeled emo because of the scene ****most of these teen bands carry now days? And didn't say the whole genre was bad, I said the all to INSULAR AND IGNORANT FANS!(not all fans) are a bunch of close minded losers, and that sir was NOT WHAT HIP HOP WAS OR IS ABOUT! Hip-Hop was not found on the fact to down and overtake other genre's of music, being a New Yorker myself I can tell you that it became an escape from poverty and gang violence, not all of this bs money talk of today. And also these pretentious uptight underground rappers, who like to smell their own crap and can only pat their back because "Hey we didn't sell out" Is becoming very boring and old. So before you even try yo place the blame, less clear up the outward ignorance that is being projected to these other music lovers, and lets see what other things have to offer. Because aside from a few hip-hop lovers most of them just put other genres of as trash. All one genre lovers are ignorant in my eye, you'll never learn anything by clinging to the same old same old all day. Just why as a black teen hip-hop has far since not become my choice of music Oh yeah...

Then you get into that argument about most people over 30 years old consider Hip-Hop music... well DUH!!! who do you think created it? How old is KRS1, How old is Curtis Blow, how old are the members of the Sugar Hill gang, and African Bambatta, and who do you think were teens and kids when hip-hop first came about? Please man, thats my problem with hip-hop becoming to insular just like those redicolus metal head THEY'VE ALL BECOME SNOBS FOR THEIR OWN SCENES!

I never said not all rock is emo. That was one poster and it was TC and your going all up in arms cause of one sterotype. You keep saying hip-hop sucks because of "insular and ignorant" and "close minded fans." I have no idea how can fans effect the way you listen to music when your sitting up alone in your room doing nothing but listening and absorbing the music. When I listen to the Beatles I don't let their fans(which most hate hip-hop) get to my head, I listen the music and enjoy it. Not whine to The Beatles fans and ask to give hip-hop a listen. And about the underground MC's comment; all they doing is trying to perserve want they love and grew up with. Just like a young rock group trying to be like the Rolling Stones and AC/DC and not some regular pop band.

And the point I was making about the people over 30, do you really think they are not elitest about their music? You don't think they trash hip-hop and are closed minded like you keep saying the majority of hip-hop fans are? You don't think they are ignorant about hip-hop and think it's just go with the sterotypes. Just beacuse they didn't grow up with hip-hop they are aloud to be blissful about it.There are as much elites, ignorant, close minded fans, on both sides. Which shouldn't being effecting your hearing anyway.

The other thing I don't get is what are you talking about how hip-hop is trying to "down and overtake other genre's of music." Do you think us hip-hop listeners are conspiring against other genres. No, we just love listening to music. And just like other fans of genre's, we might not like some other music and say something ignorant. That pretty much goes for almost every subject about anything in the world.

I did listen but you were contradicting. In your first post you said your a hip-hop lover and then said hip-hop sucks because of it's fans(which I still don't understand).

I still don't see why it matters. I was defending my favourite genre of music just like anyone who loves a genre of music would. I don't care if I'm arguing with KRS-ONE himself.

Wow at all the East Coast bias. I think the East is better too, but still "Everything from the south is trash"?

What about Outkast, Geto Boys, UGK? What about Scarface and Andre 300 alone, they are both arguably top ten MCs?

The funny thing is people only consider someone from the south if they suck.

Soujia Boy, (insert one hit wonder artist) = South.

9th Wonder, The Clipse, Little Brother, CunnyLinguists =/= South

East coast.

There's only a few southern rappers that I actually like (T.I., Outkast and Ludacris off the top of my head).

East Coast will win because the filthiness of Dirty South will destroy them. No battle is necessary; it is only a matter of time.

East coast rap beats any other region, BY A MILE. New York in the 90's was ridiculous with how much amazing rap music was coming out per year. New York= Mecca of hip hop.

Screw the dirty south, the mucky north is where the white-women at, yo. Though I don't mind a bit of grimy west or uncleanly east.

Anyways, you can like rock music without being an emo. It's the same as saying all hip-hop fans are delinquant juvenile morons.

The Dungeon Family, from the south, is arguably just as good if not better than the Wu-Tang Clan, from the east. It's been rumored that the Dungeon Fam and the Wu have been working on a joint album but all we've really gotten recently was Royal Flush. It'd be sick if that album ever happened though.
