[QUOTE="mikegtfc"]

[QUOTE="Overlord93"] As examples show, this thread topic applies to all aspects of the accents within britain. Including english irish and scotish. If you look there has been a link to an irish video, and an example of an english gentleman accent, we are discussing all aspects beacuse what TC stated applies to all regions of the UK and is not specific to one. NO one is saying any one person has a british accent. we are simply referring to british accent(s)Overlord93

Ireland is not in Britain.

northern ireland isNOT and I think you will find they have an irish accent

edit: muhahaha, they'll never know

We don't have Irish accents in Northern Ireland at all....... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unGtpBP83as&feature=related

Robert Pattinson does a horrible American accent, at least from what I've heard.

I've always considered Michael Caine's American accent to be pretty terrible, as was John Hurt's, despite both being very good actors.

Depends on your definition of a British Accent. If you mean the steroetypical "posh" or "proper" British accent then yeah i'd agree, however if you were to try a Geordie/Scouse/Brummy/Glaswegian accent, then the list of people who could convincingly pull off said accent is gonna be very small.

[QUOTE="CRS98"]Americans can do British accents as well. You're experience is questionable at best because I don't know your experience.vadicta

Name an American actor who does British accents well?

Name an American actor that doesn't do a British accent well.

And Brad Pit does a pretty awesome Scottish accent.

Any american actor who tries to do an "english accent" sounds annoyingly stereotypical, theres so many regional accents in england, even if we are a tiny country compared to you.

Think about it this way. British actors (and Australians actually) watch a huge amount of American TV and see a huge amount of American movies as they grow up. How many British (or Australian) TV shows or movies do Americans watch? It certainly puts their actors at a disadvantage in imitating other accents.

To be fair the American accent...is kinda easy, it being on all the time in Australia I find it by far the easiest to do just don't include Sam Worthington in the conversation i don't know what his problem is with it. I think it's just about being exposed to it, across the world, including the UK, american television and film is shown more then American's could ever believe.

The real thing actually is that, when an actor is trained in voice to remove their accent, the accent that they're left with would be an American one, because Americans don't have accents, so it isn't that difficult to master.

Michael Caine does a horrible American Accent, as well does Liam Neeson and Ray Winstone. The other two I'll give you. There are some people that do a very good job of mimicking the American accents, but like others have said, I think it's just do to more exposure. As for the other way around, the only American that does a descent English accent is Don Cheadle. As for Gerard Butler and the Irish accent, not sure about that one there, but he's Scottish not America. Side note though, when my mom was little her family moved to England and they ended up staying there for a few years. She immediately adapted to the English accent so well that no one knew she was American until she told them she was moving back home.

There is no one America accent. The U.S. has a lot of accents all over the country.

This is the situation where we need a sarcasm font. Because I am genuinely worried

Just as there are many different accents across Britain there are many different accents across America. Christian Bale does a fine non-descript American accent, but when he attempts a more southern accent (as in Public Enemies) not so much.

Christian Bale can do the American accents really well. Watching his movies, you'd never would've thought he was Welsh.
