What a weak president. I would've ordered the military to shoot into the crowds, spare no one, kill entire families, women and children first.

Not true, I'm just high lighting how Mubarak will go down as one of the Worst Dictators in history. Not because he was brutal, but because he wasn't brutal enough.

What kind of dictator doesn't order his own soldiers to shoot wildly into protesters?

let the civil war begin. i've learned from many years of playing civ that there will always be a period of unrest following a revolt. it usually takes a few turns to settle down.

"Rioting and trashing the place"? Have you even been following what has happened? The demonstrations have been mainly peaceful, and any rioting or trashing like with the museums was done by a small group of people.

The Protestors didn't trash anything! :| It was Mubarak who released the prisoners and had them trash the place and set buildings on fire. He also ordered the police to shoot into the protestors and run them over with cars..

Having been to Egypt and having actually like - not just be there for tourism - but to be with friends and family. Egypt could be a lot more and better. but a corrupt unmoving government that doesn't do much - if anything - to improve Egyptians lot in this world. yeah coupled with that but the rampant police brutality. and Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy style red tape beuracracy and corruption. yes i'd imagine people would sick of it. I think the last straw is that with no real improvements. the price of food rising a lot higher then most other places on the Earth. I mean the Egyptians i knew, can only afford 1 Kilogram of MEAT for their family. the pay is so abysmally low. Now don't even get me started with the housing. k. gonna stop there. suffice to say. Not entirely surprised it blew over like this. Now i'm still concerned about what the army will do now. will Egypt just become a Military Junta led government or will be like Turkey's army, where it ensure the balance for democracy.

Let's be honest here, our corrupt government DID fund Mubarak's regime and gave him all of those military weapons and resources over the years. I hope that Egypt doesn't become a nation run by violent extremists, but our damn leaders in Washington brought this on to us.

With not an ounce of sarcasm; congraulations to the people of Egypt. With dedication and persistance they have acheived their aim. Unfotunately, the peace treaty with Israel is now probably null and void. Extremist parties are waiting in the wings of Egypt. It's time for Israel to prepare for total war, hopefully this time they won't want to be caught out again by those who engulf her. Hopefully there is a situation where peace is reached, but albeit that seems highly unlikely (judging by past attacks on Israel). If need be, Israel must again show its firm hand.

Now all the radical muslim extremists that hate America and Israel can come in!! Isn't Islam great?

halo1399

without getting too depressed of having to argue with such a comment. i'm gonna quote an article from the Israeli newspaper The Haaretz.

"

The late Arab-American scholar Edward Said appears to have been right. We're all suffering from Orientalism, not to say racism, if the sight of an entire people throwing off the yoke of tyranny and courageously demanding free elections fills us with fear rather than uplifting us, just because they're Arabs…

People are scaring us with talk of an Islamist takeover of our big neighbor. The Muslim Brotherhood will certainly play an important role in any political democratic structure that emerges in Egypt, and that has to be dealt with. But then, we also have religious fundamentalists in the [Israeli] government. That is the price of a parliamentary democracy. And the previous U.S. administration was intimately linked to fundamentalists, but that's okay too, because evangelical Christians love Israel.

"

Read the rest of the article i linked if your interested or gonna bother reading it.

Really it comes down to this, put so eloquently by the L.A. Times

" The United States today has a clear choice, it can side with the people, or with the dictator"

oh gawd... please can your worms. the treaty is NOT null and void. and this whole thing doesn't have anything to do with Israel.

don't worry the Christian Evangelicals can get into poltiics and shape national politics in many different ways (sometimes disasterous) in the West. Israel can have very conservative/extreme Jewish members get in, trumping "it's God's land, it's our land" the whole shebang.

and you wouldn't bat an eye.

I'm not a fan of the Muslim Brotherhood, but there is no getting around the fact, like it or not. pout about it or get all "war-hawk" chest-beating mode if you want. but religion plays a role in poltiics even if there is an explicit or technically a seperation of church and state.

What is far more important is what shape of democracy will Egypt form. and it looks like at the moment that it will be a liberal democracy. one where no single part can sit around forever.
