[QUOTE="SaudiFury"]

[QUOTE="CannedWorms"]If they haven't recognised Israel after 1947 then why would they now? And to the person above, there is Jordan and Egypt who official recognise Israel. What other Arab state does?CannedWorms

Because there have been various gestures in the past. Syria has been in on and off again talks with Israel via mediators like the US and Turkey.

Saudi Arabia - the last country some people would expect - managed to get all 22 Arab states to agree to the Arab Peace Initiative . in 2002, reiteratd in 2005, and was reiterated again in 2007. Not to mention current non-peace partners have come international meetings (meaning not Egypt or Jordan, but countries like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, and the Emirates). I remember when Saudi's foreign minister came to Appomatox (i believe that is where it was held) but refused to have any public photo's when around the Israeli ministers. They're there to help facilitate, but with no deal or anything they're not gonna be doing anyone any favors either.

It was Crown Prince Abdullah (now King of Saudi Arabia) who was on the principal Arab players pressing the American government to persue the two-state peace plan in the 80's as a means to facilitate the peace in the region.

You seem to still be stuck in a 1947 world and have forgotten that 3 generations have come and gone in that time.

I'm not saying there isn't a lot of animosity or hate, but to say that the Arab states CANT do it.

well i simply think your wrong.

and if your answer is "Israel gets everything it wants, we'll use the stick if we have to" you'll change nothing. the status quo will continue to exist,

and the one country in a sea hostiles can remain a fortress nation for the time being if it likes.

Really for as much as people try turning this thing into a religious war/thing (which there IS that element), it is remarkable how it has a lot more to do with the people, history and sense of ownership for the peoples involved.

P.S. I'm not saying the Arabs should or could get everything they wanted at the negotiating table, but i do think that compromises are needed, and earnest honost people who have the political will are up to the task as well. None of which means that Arab states, or history, or even religion itself make it impossible for peace to occur.

The Arab Peace Initiative was a complete joke from an Israeli point of view. It demanded the return of lands gained by Israel in a defensive war! The Golan's should remain under Israeli territory, the Syrian's can't be trusted at all (Yom Kippur..yes it was 1967 but I wouldn't put it past them to try and do something very similar in the near future). East Jerusalem will never be given up by Israel, so again the Peace Initative was unrealistic. The return of millions of Palestinian refugees? That one cracked me up. Do you really believe Israel would accept the only Jewish majority state in the country becoming Arab within a blink of an eye? Until the Arab Initiative is reviewed to not be heavily pro-Palestine then maybe Israel will come to the table.

Syria, oh Syria. Didn't they reject the Arab Peace Intiative. Sorry but I think keeping the Golan's is better than making peace with them. Peace treaty or not, they will always be anti-Israeli (e.g. supplying anti-Israeli groups).

I seem to be stuck in 1947..uh what? What gives you that idea?

Bad choice of wording on my part. It's not that they CAN'T, it's that they WON'T.

Israel are in a lose-lose situation. On one hand, if they give Palestine a two-state solution then what? Next year Palestine will want a one-state solution. On the other hand, Israel can try and maintain the status quo to ensure she doesn't being her own downfall.

Peace. Hm. Maybe Arab states can learn of that meaning. Oh, and Iran too. Especially Iran.

There are several things i could just argue out with you with what you just wrote. but obviously you and i don't see eye to eye on this. Not to mention the proposal wasn't a take-it-or-leave it proposal.

Not to mention as well, i know very well what your politics are, so i know what to expect as a response from you. Not all that surprised. Really i just why you say that. then i counter-wrote, then i got the expected reply (not surprised by what it's content said). We could go at this all night and day.

so........good day.

Muslim Brotherhood = evil. Evangelical christians in the oval office = ok. Just pointing out the hypocrisy. Ninja-Hippo

Serious Evangelical Christians do not go around blowing up churches, mosques, and cars like extreme muslims do. It is fact that Islam is a much more dangerous and extreme religion than Christianity is.

You do realize that most Muslims consider the beliefs of the Taliban and Al Qaeda to be a perversion of their religion, right? Oh, and if you honestly think that less extreme acts were done in the name of Christianity, then I suggest you study up on the Spanish Inquisition, the Crusades, and even modern day hate groups.

Agreed not worth debating with.. Israel from a historic view is just as much the aggressor (even today) as their neighbors.. There is not just side in this war.. Only thing happening now is the innocents on both sides are hurting..

So I'm guessing some crazy arab that hates america will step into the vacuum, not sure this is really a good thing. Good for the people though, at least the world knows that you can overthrow any government with enough people pushing, hopefully something good comes out of this though.

Congratulation to the Egyptian people. Egypt and indeed the Arab world, stands at a crossroad. May all go well and a new era of freedom and peace come to the region.

I hope they do better. Iran had a revolutin as well, but took 5 steps backward.

sonicare

To say my country took five steps backward is an exaggeration. Two steps backward sounds right and you neglect to mention that they took one step forward; the removal of the despot Shah.

I am happy for them, almost a month if not of protesting really paid off.

I hope that everything works out well in their reforms, but it may take time.
