He has great lyrics, even though he tends to rap about some combination of drugs and murdering/assaulting women half the time. I've heard people criticize Relapse and Relapse:Refill, but I think there are quite a few gems in those albums.fidosim
Relapse is a collection of songs of different quality. Some crap, average, and great. 15 songs on it (not counting skits) and if they cut out 5 of them it would be excellent. Have not heard R: Refill though and I don't intend to spend money on it.

Refill is just Relapse with a few extra songs. My personal favorite of those extras is Music Box.He's an excellent flow artist and an even better lyricist. In 20 or 30 more years I really hope he goes down as one of the greatest lyricists of our time. Sure he goes extreme with a lot of his stuff, but he knows how to deliver a powerful message with words and make it very entertaining and deep at the same time. I'm not a fan of hip hop, but I am a fan of Shady Records and Dre.
great white rappers are hard to come by. so when one does come around, and his skill is good enough to kill just about any mc out there that person is just destined for stardom. throw one helluva good movie and some G'd outentourage (D12, 50 cent, Dre...) like Em has, and your bound to be quite popular.

I assume that you agree then? Nickelback is... mind numbingly awful.
There's no such thing as "emo rap".The lyrics and his great flow. It sometimes sounds like emo rap.

People like Eminem because he's "Gangsta", which is Douchebagian for ****wit.

Eminem is about as gangsta as the average suburban kid. Really? Gangta?

mc chris would like a word with you.
mc chris? r u comparing Em and mc chris? em isn't just white, but he's a pretty white boy with who needs years of therapy...and i think a lot of ppl can relate to that even if they don't want to. we are all a little crazy in the head, and that's why Em's lyrics are able to draw us in. i'm not saying that evey great white rapper will go to the top...in fact it's quite the opposite now that em has been there and done that. whoever it is that goes for em's spot better be able to shoot fireworks out of their @$$ just to get our attention:P my previous post was mainly meant for eminem...

According to different people's tastes...there really is no definitive answer...
His music is written by him, about him, in his own words. I respect him because he shows true emotion in his music, regardless of how the media or the rap community views it. To the guy who said that "rappers are about emotion" are some crap; you should really listen to 90% of the rap out there and realize that that crap is NOT music. It's someone scraping the bottom of the creativity barrel to try to make a hit single. He made albums upon albums and each one showed his emotion. So no one here can say that he isn't a good musician, even if you don't like his music. DeathxcoreYou praise Eminem then put down 90% of rappers? That the only thing that annoys me about Eminem, not him he;s great, but the people that act like he brought something new to hip-hop. There are plenty of rappers who were doing what Eminem was doing before him and better than him.

no im not comparing them at all (impossible). i was just saying if: white + awesome skills = stardom, mc chris would be onfm radio (god i hope that never happens)
I love Eminem's music, all of it. I think he's so popular because while he isn't a great rapper, per se, he has great stories that go beyond the usual boastful "i'm such a gangsta" wannabe crap that most people rap about. Sure jay-Z may be a better storyteller (and I love him too), but eminem's stories are more interesting.
Although I have to say Lupe Fiasco is the mutts nuts, he is an awesome lyricist, gifted rapper and his stories are awesome too...
Yep, and I love his older songs better than his new ones though.[QUOTE="wstfld"]Eminem is popular because he is a great artist. It also helps that his songs aren't all about money, girls, and guns.mitu123
I dunno, 3 AM and same song and dance are pretty good...they made me chuckle anyway.

yeah, i spent some time listening to MC Chris, and i must say i find his voice very annoying. he sounds feminine, but he does have a loyal fan base. i'm just not one;)

Relapse is also a horror-core album, and we all know how much people hate horror-core.i don't understand all the hate on Relapse. i enjoy listening to 90% of the tracks, and do so weekly. i listen to Relapse far more than other cd's purchased around the same time... Raekwon's OB4CL part 2, Blackout 2... the songs on Relapse are some of the hardest to memorize, but that just gives me more of a reason to listen to them over and over again. plus, i'm a fan of "horror-core" tracks. finally, the 5 - 7 new tracks on Refill are pretty good. i say possible 7 new tracks if when purchasing Relapse you didn't get the deluxe version. i'm a big Em fan so it's hard for him to let me down i guess...
