Essentially isn't it true that we are obsolete?

In the world we are nothing more than a small blip (if that) on the stage we know as life, we live our lives and then once we die thats it our existence in life is gone. Time replaces us and eventually the world continues on like nothing happened. It all boils down to it that if you think we are pretty muchanachronisms, sort of like ghosts from another time. What we call literature poetry, essays, all kinds, all of it are opiate to make you think you have a strength, when you have no strength at all. I am obsolete, you are obsolete, we all are obsolete

OT wouldn't you agree?

I wouldn't call that being obsolete, just being impermanent. Even the entire universe will go the way of some sort of "death" and disintegration sooner or later.

Is that why most of the Half-life titles begin and end on some sort of train? Because we are slowly decaying as we travel through time and space?

How can something be obsolete when there is nothing with which it is superceded?

Atheism is not inherently nihilistic. That statement is rather rash and a weak generalisation.

I'm sorry for the oversimplified generalization, whereas this is OT.

I'm not an atheist, I do however believe that we are mere dots in the grand scheme of things. Essentially everything we do is obsolete

We are not obsolete. Obsolete implies we were once useful.

Obsolete to what. We can't serve the universe or do anything like that because there is nothing to be obsolete for.

We are not obsolete. Obsolete implies we were once useful.

jrhawk42

"Usefulness" only has relevance within the context of achieving goals.

And in that sense, implying that we were never "useful" implies that we either have no goals, or that we never achieve what we set out to do. Both of which I think are demonstrably wrong.

Or let me put it another way...a gun can be a USEFUL tool for murdering a person. You can say any bad thing about the murder itself or the person who performed it. But if the GOAL was to make a person dead, and the gun did a very quick and easy job of that, then it was a useful tool. Bottom line is that "usefulness" is inherently tied to intent. And you can say that the intent itslf was all kinds of screwed up. But that doesn't say anything about being "useful".

We are not obsolete yet, once something comes that surpasses us then you might want to think of it that way.

So you're telling me what happens when I die? Correct me if I'm wrong here, but have you died before?
