The growing lack of support for the war in Afghanistan is that it's been done before (Soviet invasion) and it failed. And we're doing it again, we're fighting one of the most difficult enemies you can possibly fight. You can't stop terrorism by invading a country. Terrorists follow an ideology, not a government of said country. We can invade countries all we like, but terrorism is world-wide. With the internet being so widespread they can co-ordinate all sorts without the need to set up in any particular country. Invading Afghanistan won't help anyone.
Our soldiers are dying for no apparent reason. As far as I'm aware the 9/11 and 7/7 attacks didn't originate from Afghanistan at all - in fact, the British attack originated from, well...Britain.
There's also a lack of agreement on what we're doing over there.
Are we fighting terrorists that we can't see?
Are we freeing people from oppression?
Are we restoring democracy?
Are we (or, the US) stealing oil?
Did the US want an oil pipeline?
Oh and no I don't think the Europeans should help the US if they choose to invade somewhere else. If the US is so uber-awesome like all the yanks think it is, then why can't they go save the world on their own?
