in the current economic climate ie recession - solid results will be...... what would be solid results? it's inevitable that unemployment will go up, the dollar drops and all those other good things recessions bring (which I'm sure an economist could help me remember :P) will happen.

I like his speeches. I watched the movie "bobby" a while back - the movie centred around Robert Kennedy's election. There's a brilliant speech of his at the end. It's gutsy, it's not sweatened, it's truthful and most of all inspiring. Then I think of the speeches of John Howard and George Bush. :( Boring, uninspiring, drivel. Obama feels like a return to Americas Great Presidents.

Credit is harder to come by, this does mean lower inflation and interest rates though... I don't think everyone should look to the president to sort out the economy, it too big a mess, the public can look to congress to soften its effects, even if its technically not they're job.

Barack has more important issues to solve, such as the US's poor relations with Muslims and Arab countires. Poverty in America, and getting back some of those civil Liberties that ape they called george took away in his two terms.

Either way, its a recession, not the end of the world as we know it.

Obama can achieve great things, and probably change the world for the better if he tries.

i actually wish for him to be succesful :) Hes such a likeable character. (or so he seems to be) but i want numbers! hard, cold numbers! :P I decided a while back that i wouldnt pass judgement on him before his first (and maybe last) 4 years are done and over with, to give him a fair chance in this crisis. I suspect he will need another 4 years tho to really deliver the goods :)

He hasnt done anything. If he wants to be my hero he just needs to make one statement and follow through with it: "The United States of America will now give conditional support to Israel."

But the people are creating their own hope. Putting an unfair amount of, I don't know, faith in a human man. Think of the pressure that puts on Obama. I mean, is it even possible for him to live up to these insane expectations?

People will just blame the recession if he fails to live up to the hype, and besides he shouldn't be in this business if he can't handle expectations, since well, he was the one who created them.

You misunderstand. I always think it's time for a celebration! Just not about a president, usually. Anyway, I already celebrated when he got elected, this inauguration is just a formality.

Didn't Bush have a 90% plus approval rating when he became president? :) He hasn't done anything yet, people will celebrate whether Obama was elected or not. People wanted change and this guy just gave the better interview with America.

That is a reasonable concern, and I agree with it. I try to remind people that he is only human--despite what the media might tell you. Don't get me wrong I have some faith, he is a smart charismatic fellow, but the expectations are so high and the man can only do so much and things will take time to get better and of course there is always that chance that he will turn out to be a puppet to the other powers that be and fail the American people. We shall see.

I support Obama and I hope it does a great job in office.

But if things turn south, I expect everyone to turn on an Obama hate bandwagon like everyone did with Bush. But this won't happen.
