Hey, have you guys ever had sleep paralysis? Apparently everyone in my family has experienced it at least once, except for me. What happens is that you're awake but cannot move anything at all, sounds creepy. . .Ever experience it? Studies have shown it's pretty common.

This actually happened to me for the first time ever about 2 months ago. I "woke up" and couldn't move for like 15 seconds and it was quite frightening.

I get it sometimes, basically what happens is that your body is still asleep, whereas your brain is still only half asleep. The sufferer usually experiences frightening inability to move with the possible bad dream. For example, I got it and could see "someone" coming towards me, like a shadow and I couldn't move. And I was awake with my eyes open and could see until my body woke up.

I usually break myself out of it now though because I'm used to it.

It was very weird. I was having a dream that I can't recall the details of. I then got that feeling you get when you first wake up and try to move and stretch but I couldn't move at all. I tried moving my hands, feet, even closing my eyes and I couldn't do anything so I started panicking because I had no idea WTF was going on. Then I got the "wake up" feeling again and could move. I was definitely fully conscious during my period of paralysis though.

I had actually completely forgotten about this incident until I read this thread.

It has happened to me a couple times, the first time was terrifying, but I was a kid, the worst part is trying to scream but no sound comes out of your mouth.

But it just lasts a few minutes, no more than two, it just feels like an eternity.

reminds me of when i was younger, I had a dream about a guy climbing in the window and strangling me , it felt unbelieveably real. when I woke up, I was lying the opposite way round on my bed to when I went to sleep, I couldn't breath and I could physically feal a hand around my neck. I almost passed out...turned out i had an asthma attack.

can't imagine what entire paralysis would be like, that was bad enough, but not being able to move...freaky

I thnk people need to understand that while you're "paralyzed" you're not actually awake. It just feels like you are.

Your brain is but your body is not. Unless you're mentally paralyzed as well.

Yeah it happens to me every once or twice in a year. Maybe three or four if I am that unlucky. I lay in my bed struggling to move my body laying on my bed in a bad position that it makes me feel uncomfortable. I usually kick my wall very hard when I attempt to break the paralysis. But it is frigthening indeed and only occurs after a bad dream or something.

Yes, actually I've had it happen quite a few times. Each experience has been a little different, so I'm not exactly sure what triggers it. The last time I had it happen was probably the craziest. I didn't just hallucinate and see things in the room, but rather saw myself get up, go downstairs and enter my roommate's room, and then proceeded to tear things up. I had to ask her later on if I had done anything. She looked at me like I was freakin psycho. Can't say I blame her :P

First time It happened I found it interesting, but I panicked in like a minute 'cause of a sorta.. hallucination... The second time It happened I just tried to move my hand until it worked.
