So has anyone done Jury Duty before? Just something I thought of because my teacher had Jury Duty today.

I got the letter but they decided my services weren't needed anymore. It would be kind of nice to have had the experience but it mostly would have been a pain.

I had just moved out of my place when they sent a letter to it. I got a call about 3 months later from the guy who moved in after me saying he had found a letter calling me to Jury Duty for a date that had already passed.

I've been called up four times. I served on one jury on a domestic violence/aggrevated assault case. I don't have a problem with jury duty. It's a civic responsibility and a small price to pay for living in a free society.

I have been on a jury twice. The second time was a case where a guy had stolen his mother's wedding ring and pawned it for cash. Very depressing because the dude basically had an addiction to pawning stuff for money with the intent of getting them back. Unfortunately, he kept getting himself in deeper and deeper to the point he was pawning stuff to rebuy stuff that he'd already pawned until his parents decided to charge him with a crime to help him. Ugh. First time was a case of assault and battery of a security guard at an airport when a mother went ballistic with how the search of her teenage daughter was handled. That case would have been SOOOOooOOO much more interesting if it had occurred AFTER 9/11.

I'm glad there's people like you to make up for the rest of us who will try to find any way of getting out of it. I've received the letter once but didn't have to go since I attend school out of state.

Nope. I was close to having one until I moved to my mom in another state. The moment I moved, the moment my dad called the following day and said I received a letter for Jury duty....

I've had jury duty once - extreme pain and I hated it....

I have a question - if you are a full time college student and they call you in for jury duty and pick you, do the college classes HAVE to let you make up assignments/exams? Or are you just screwed?

Yeah that would be pretty lame to miss an exam or important assignments just because some dude stole a car and you have to suffer for it... man I hate jury duty!!

Thinking about all of the cases where there are one or two people on the jury disagree made me realize that. It's not the fact that the minority can change the outcome, but the fact that whether or not said minority happens to be on the jury is pretty much just dumb luck.

Same for me.

If you're trying to get out of jury duty just say this:"Your Honor, I don't think I can be an impartial juror. The defendant looks like such a scumbag that I'm insulted that you consider me to be one of his peers."

I almost did, then I wrote them an email saying I didn't want to do it and got out of it. Plus the fact that I go to school 700 miles from my home, that helped too.

not 18, so no, but if i get asked i want to find a genius and awesome excuse to get out of it. And as unfortunate as it is, the only things i can think of are pretending to be racist or homophobic or somethign along those lines. Or jsut wearing somethign ridiculous to the court date.

everytime i get a notice for jury duty, i check online the night before to see if i have to show up.... if it says i do have to show up. I call and delay it a month... then repeat the process until I check the website and it says i dont need to show up.

I forget which comic it was that poked fun at the jury system because our juries consist of people that arent smart enough to figure how to get out of jury duty.
